The R's sacked Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink earlier this month after a difficult run of form, and chairman Tony Fernandes made something of a surprise choice. Fernandes decided to bring Holloway back as their new manager, more than ten years after he left the club following nearly five years as their manager. Ally McCoist has revealed to the Sunday Post[/a] that he put his name into the hat for the QPR job, and he also expressed interest in a job but was told to 'not go near it with a barge pole'. please log in to view this image Ally McCoist McCoist spoke about his career and his desire to return to management, joking that nothing can be as bad as his time in charge of Rangers. McCoist was in charge for just one year before Rangers were liquidated and had to start in the fourth tier of Scottish football, and he managed to win successive promotions to get the club back to the second tier within two years. McCoist declared his intention to resign in December 2014, and began serving a 12-month notice period, was put on gardening leave and eventually had his contract terminated in a turbulent time for the club – and after that stress, McCoist wants to consider his next move carefully, but ultimately believes nothing can be that bad. Ally McCoist “I threw my name in for the QPR job last week which went to Ian Holloway,” said McCoist. “A few other jobs have come up, but just after I expressed an interest in one, people got in touch to tell me not to go near it with a barge pole. So I’m not going to take anything for the sake of it. There’s no point in me moving my family down the road to be back up in three months.” “If something comes up, brilliant, I’d love to do it. It’s what I want to do. But I’m in a fortunate position in that I can do some punditry and I have other business interests which I’m keen to work on. I’m looking at England, but there are one or two things going on in the United States which I’d seriously consider as well.”
"People got in touch to tell me not to go near it with a barge pole". The feeling is mutual Ally, let me assure you.
Why the unanimous strength of feeling about him? Don't know anything about his skills as a manager or his personality. Just asking. Nobody selected in the last few years was good enough for some to manage what is an average Championship side with tight purse strings.
I take it the hat was a Tam o shanter It would of easily been recognisable in the ring so I am guessing QPR weren't fooled and had some idea who threw it We don't do business like that it England we have interviews controlled by recruitment departments If it did happen are QPR allowed to keep the hats? I bet Tim Sherweod threw his sports direct baseball cap but it missed the ring Ollie's cap weighs 24kg so must of been placed imo
+1. What has he done to make him so vilified? His CV as a footballer is exceptional and looks very good as a Manager and otherwise.
what man would turn down a job, that if proved useless, you get the sack after 3 months and a £1m pay cheque as compensation
Ally who? What has that tw@nt ever done as a manager? was he not Rangers manager in the Scottish third division and still lost games? Bloody hell we were scraping the barrel if he was a contender. Holloway doesn't seem so bad compared to some of the names that were linked.
Don't believe the barge pole comment was aimed at us. “I threw my name in for the QPR job last week which went to Ian Holloway,” said McCoist. “A few other jobs have come up, but just after I expressed an interest in one, people got in touch to tell me not to go near it with a barge pole.
OK. I'll ask again. Why. Club relegated from Prem to Division 3 because of financial misdeeds by the owners. The squad departed. He put together a new team of kids and lower league journeymen ad got promotion two years running. Played 36 won 25 drew 8 lost 3. So he is a tw@nt in your view. Whatever that is, you may be right. But I can't make a judgment on that until you elaborate. Anyway it must be better than being a yoghurt knitter!!
Is everyone a tw@nt as you call them, had a look at yourself recently? All this crap talk as you put it about managers & Holloway & you still haven't said who you wanted.
