What has the pandemic taught us? ….have we learned a lesson ? … will we act in the future? the biggest lesson learned is cost is everything, in this case human cost due to not being prepared .. and believing by buying cheap we have made a profit! I randomly picked 30 items AROUND THE HOUSE that had been here for more than 3 months and looked at the place of origin.... 21 were product of China 5 European origin 1 assemble in uk from parts from foreign other 3 uk… over all it included ......…. food " gherkins produce Chine!" ...electricals "charger, torch led strip " clothes " tee shirt, jumper .. gloves " ornaments …" Charminster made in china! " WE see today a shortage of everyday items, mostly the main issues being PPE … AND THE SIMPLEST THINGS like the protective gowns needed by staff and patients not being available, and going into "last 24 hours of supply" / re using one time use items* after sterilization …. and 2 of this countries "snob factor" companies turning their production lines to making these simple items of clothes. A mother was driving her 10 year old son to school when a dildo fell off a dump truck in front and stuck on her windscreen, she stopped the car got out and removed it quickly all embarrassed she got back into the car and said to her son oh it was just an insect, Her son replied wow I am surprised it could get off the ground with a dick that size, China supplies 60% +? of all worldy goods to the developed and non third world countries like Russia did anyone see the film a few years back of the tractors! A LINE 40 or more wide that before they started scrapping the front of the line melting down and remaking had to be driven 2 miles to park them up! parts of china are the same! A batch of face masks! ? / PPE purchased from a Chinese supplier were out of date by 4 or 5 years... the production ticket that said month/2021 when peeled off said 2015! China survives on the pyramid system [ upside pyramid ] It is alleged that millions of female baby girls were killed at birth because Chinese custom is to have a son so when 1 child per family was in force … guess what! they have no benefit system so when no work no money so civil unrest … to keep the spiralling population happy make more goods cheaper to keep unemployment down …. Friend of mine went to a wedding in Britol. He leaned close to the man sitting next to him and said "Have you ever seen an uglier bride?" The man said "Are calling my daughter ugly?" "Oh, sorry, said my mate, "I didn't know you were her father". "I'm not her father, I'm her mother." so the pandemic has taught us 1 thing we need to be more self sufficient, we have the technology the ability and skills to fill the gaps.. dyson aero space airbus formula 1 and umpteen clothing and small component companies and individuals now supplying the NHS etc … I bet this pandemic will have returned the planets atmosphere back to that of the 70's????? or close have we learned a lesson … I doubt it .. our throwaway age has led us to be selfish and greedy. we see in supermarkets stickers like buy british … beef lamb pork etc etc do we see it on/for a i pad or computer or such like no because we would have to pay a bit more for it.. I have in my utility room a fluorescent light .. it is the plug into the normal light bulb socket it was sold via most of the big diy /electrical outlets of the 80's they used to make a dozen designs or more and about 4000 units a week .. all components were British including the tubes .. I bought mine at source from appletree trading estate Churchill .. for a couple of pounds it gets switched on maybe 4 times a day and sometimes left on for hours we went on holiday once for 29 days and left it on! ooooops I bought it in 1983 still 100% how many made in china lights last even a year let alone a decade or 2 or 3 decade! will we act in the future? …………. I think" have we learned a lesson" answers this …. NO … WE HAVE OPTED like most of the rest of the world to get our eggs from 1 basket and our greed at cheap as opposed to cheep cheep will rule our destiny keep safe keep happy keep indoors 2 OF MY FRIENDS HAVE JUST been tested positive, she is a IC nurse luckily still at home suffering it is not serious yet ……………. the mild form.
Fingers crossed they'll be ok JGF2 Warnings now of multiple waves of this virus and a possible UK death toll of around 40k come the end.....if there is one Staggering figures - mind blowing, and deeply scary Bad enough now with 14k or more UK deaths plus the additional numbers in Care Homes and home deaths
it makes you wonder what if? … those 1000's of erjits 3 weeks ago had not gone to the beaches and moors and mountains … they showed a graph based on one person having it, and their isolation was deemed to be an over lapping 7 days and should isolate... another gets the virus from them and so has to isolate for a overlapping 7 days etc etc basically family scenario. We have to note how quickly the door was shut down on them 2 days after the weekend in question ==== lock down so .gov was very worried and on the ball. the next graph was the 15 or so v the 450 or so contaminations / getting it as a result from contact [or from that weekend]. viz …. 1 has it spreads to 1 or 2 least worse scenario to 1 gives to 3 or more worst scenario . That graph showed just 1 potential infection. INFO SINCE has determined that 2m is minimum but where you have peeps that are breathing through exertion spread a vapour cloud over many more metres [ stay clear of smokers real or vapeheads, joggers and cyclists ] It is difficult for the type of peeps going up Snowdon not to be breathless in parts so 1 individual could easily infect a couple dozen on their way to the top as the path only allows for peeps to be a foot or two apart in the more strenuous bits! [ bear in mind dozens of mountain steep hill routes were invaded that weekend ] that would mean the next 2 weeks could see a rise or an extended plateau. there is certainly more family cases coming to light in mild or full blown or a mixture …. I would willingly volunteer for work to help but not allowed!!! however there should be a network set up to allow peeps like me to do trace work after all most people should be at home!!!! Got sad news today. After 7 years of medical training, my good friend has been struck off after 1 minor indiscretion. He slept with 1 of his patients & now can no longer work in the job he loves. What a waste of time, training & money. A genuinely nice guy, and a brilliant vet.
Vaccine is the only long-term answer - fingers crossed they can make progress on this In the meantime all we are doing is kicking the can down the road
ABSOLUTELY... trouble is it is a long road …. bit like the M1 has a number of blackspots with overcrowding and mishaps on route ….. occasional clear runs and is a long journey till the end of it! The Bristol lab is apparently working on the synthetic approach [ if you don't know the differences look it up ] and whilst might not be the long term answer could have some effect if it works out ...
