The most improved player and Gerrard v Lampard debates got me thinking, who would you have in your all time best eleven?

It will probably be mostly dominated by Man Utd players and a few Arsenal, I would imagine.

    I'd go for...

    --------------------- P Schmeichel -------------------

    G Neville --- Adams --- Ferdinand --- A Cole

    ------------------------- Vieira ---------------------------

    ------- Ronaldo ---- Scholes ---- Giggs -----------

    ----------------- Henry --- K Phillips -----------------

Good pick. I'd replace Cantona with Shearer.

Not bad Fosse but you don't need both Kante and Keane. You need a playmaker instead tbh. Nice of you to put Irwin in at RB, so you must have thought a lot of him.

Would be very narrow. Gerrard, Bale, C.Ronaldo and Henry all cut inside.

..I did indeed... thought he was absolutely superb ...

Actually put Kante in just to stir things up ...but he will probably warrant it in a couple of seasons.

I suspect I could insert Bergkamp for Roy Keane given that Kante gets through the work of 2 ...apparently he made 16 tackles against Liverpool the other night ...the most in a single game by any player this season (and more than our whole midfield in our last 3 games combined) ... :)

Too early for Kante mate. I'd put Essien and Petit in there before him. I'd keep Keane tbh, put in Scholes (arguably our most important midfielder in a generation imo) BUT while Giggs is a hero of mine for such a long time, I've always liked Robert Pires. I think there's an argument to have him on the LW tbh.

Could easily just pick all United players and it would be hard to argue against but, in the interest of not being overly biased that way, I've tried to put some non United players in.

Irwin plays right back as a result

van Der Sar - could have been Schmeichel but it's just a personal preference. Both were equally successful, I think van Der Sar was the better keeper.
Irwin - best left back of the premier league era but putting him at right back so I can squeeze Cole in.
    Stam
    Ferdinand
    Cole A
    Ronaldo
    Keane
    Scholes
    Giggs
    Cantona
Henry - there's a good argument for Shearer here obviously. And Aguero.

    Playing 4 4 2

    <ok>

Ronaldo wasn't that good in the short space of time that he warrants a place in an all time PL team. I could name a few players with better records and more appearances and players that would fit into any balanced 11 and form a lethal team.

Or is it based on hype factor? A team with Henry on the wing and Shearer up front would be a much better 'team' than Ronaldo on the wing and Henry upfront. The stats back it, the on pitch mentality backs it, the fact that they played in the PL at their peak and succeeded backs it too. Plus no doubt a whole range of other stats back it when it comes to on field contributions.

Too many bummers haven't seen past the hype, in my humble opinion. Ronaldo at RM? Maybe.

    ^^^^^^

    Makes some good points

Apart from Shearer who was a dirty little ****. Was Beckham more influential than Ronaldo, in Man Utd's glory years?

The question comes down to who you would drop for him? ... I went for Giggs over Gareth Bale ... but Giggs, IMHO, would not have been able to do for Wales what Gareth Bale has.... so it sort of comes down to how the team fits together

Couldn't have Beckham in my team .. who would you drop?. I remember at the height of David Beckham's United career he was still voted behind Geotge Best in the United supporters all time favourite player poll. George Best won it. They interviewed George after the poll and asked him whether he was relieved to have beaten David Beckham in it - his response, to paraphrase, was along the line that DB had done very well for himself .... when you considered that he couldn't head a ball, kick with his left foot, beat a man or tackle.... very astute was George. <laugh>
