(don't know if a thread like this has been done before but ah well) Just to get away from all this hasty posting and WUMMING, I was having a chat with a pal today at work about what our all time XI would be and was wondering who you'd all have in yours? This of course was my generation and seeing snippets of pre-80's games to add some obvious selections but was wondering what some of you older folk though and who you'd chop and change. We decided the best was this: Manager: Jose Mourinho (4-3-3) ---------------Cech------------- Harris----Desailly--Terry------Cole -------------Makalele------------ ---------Hudson--Lampard------- Cooke-----------------------Zola -------------Osgood------------- Bench: Bonetti, Clarke, Carvalho, Essien, Wise, Robben, Drogba/Dixon Was a lengthy discussion and still rather undecided! Couldn't leave Osgood, Zola, Lamps or Terry out but so wanted Dixon or Drog in! Very tough indeed. Special mentions going to Cudicini, LeBouef, Walker, Eidur, Tamling and many more... p.s Imagine Zola and Osgood in the same team
No Jimmy? I'd have thought he'd be a good shout for the bench. Maybe that's just cos I remember him terrorising us on quite a few occasions
Yeah maybe ahead of Dixon! We've been gifted with many talented strikers, I just didn't know who to place in there
Don't anyone remember Ed De Goey, was one of our best keepers ever in my opinion !! What a way to bring back some great fond memories aswell Drogs! I'll never forget Makelele, to this day the best holding midfielder i've ever seen. Don't really agree with Essien in the team though, he was a great player but only for 1-2 seasons, and how on earth could you miss out the best player we've ever had...........Kalouuuu lol joking, agree with basically all of it though, Harris aswell, what a legend, to this day still in the top 10 right backs i've seen
yes De Goey was brilliant too but before Cech was injured he was a class above anything I've seen, amazing keeper. Same with Cudicini.
I totally agree, i still don't think any keeper in the world could compete with Cech before his injury, he was simply a class above, his still a great keeper and it showed tremendous courage to come back and carry on playing and i rate him even higher for that. And now you come to mention it though i always knew it would take a great keeper to replace Cudicini as he was a great keeper too, don't know who i'd pick out of De Goey and Cudicini, too hard to call!! We have had some great keepers!
I will only do the players I have seen. --------------Cudicini--------------- ---Petrescu-----Carvalho----Terry-----Cole ---Essien-----Makalele-----Lampard----Zola -------------Drogba------JFH Bench: Kharine, RDM, Glo, Eidur, Babayaro etc
He was a great shot stopper and a good servant for the club and for me the 3rd best ever Chelsea goalie. Although his handling of the Kanu hattrick was a debacle
Drogs--I love posts like this , but I'm going to sleepy byes now and I'm going to mull it over in my dreams before I give you the de luxe Chelsea team some time tomorrow!
-----------Cech------------- Harris---Desailly---Terry---Cole Hudson---Makelele---Lampard Zola------Osgood-------Mata Subs: Bonetti, Clarke, Carvalho, Essien, Wise, Robben, Drogba. Pretty much the same line-up as yours but replaced Cooke with Mata.
I'm far to young and with too little exposure until the last few years to have a say, but it helps me learn the history of the club. Always like this sort of stuff.
I'm old school, and an all time Chelsea team without Ian Hutchinson is not right. Also Peter Houseman is worth a sub spot. Racking my brains now......Tambling...Droy....Webb.....Garland....Greaves!!!.... Bollocks its late time for bed.
Yeah good for stuff like that, you like learning about our history Gef? Take a look at this, think I found it on the old 606 and forgotten who had posted it originally but a fantastic read nonetheless:
