All this talk of selling our best players...

I have now come to the conclusion that the sale of Andy Carroll is likely to benefit the club (presuming the money is available during the summer transfer window, whether that be a huge assumption or not).

At the end of the day, Andy Carroll wanted to leave because he wanted the money available at Liverpool.

Anyway, that's in the past.

However, I can't help but see similarities in the unfolding Jose Enrique story. It is claimed that Enrique wants to play for a club that is going places, a team that aspires to play European football and win trophies.

This brings me to the main point of this article. This summer will be a huge indicator of Mike Ashley's plans for us, whether he will stay and help us push forward or whether he will jump ship.

If his intentions are indeed to push forward then he will do the following:

• Make his intentions clear to Enrique, prove that he is going to take the club forward and give him the European football that he desires. Then negotiate a new contract with him (at least attempt).
• Sign Barton up to a new contract.
• Decline any offers for Tiote and enforce the remaining period left on his contract (may mean declining a transfer request).
• Invest in transfers in the summer (put the £35m from Carroll's sale to use as he promised) in order to create a squad that is worthy of European football.

Any other action than these will be a step backwards. My point is, if we really are to progress as a club then we must keep the best quality players in our squad and add to them with transfers in the summer. Only by doing this can we make an improvement.

I'll spell it out, if we:

• Sell Enrique at a low price without even bothering to sort out his contract
• Accept ANY offer for Tiote.
• Are unable to agree a contract with Barton.
• Fail to spend in the summer transfer window.

Then it is almost a definite indicator that Mike Ashley intends to sell.

This is all hypothetical of course, we are not yet an established Premier League team. The above is dependent upon us first securing survival. But, say that Enrique does choose to leave... this will be because we couldn't convince him to stay (sounds dumb right?) and the reason we couldn't convince him to stay would be because we couldn't convince him that we were 'going places' and are taking actions to progress as a club.

At the end of the day, if we sell our best players then we are only going backwards.

If we fail to spend in the summer, then we are not making progress and are not moving forward

We must keep our best players in order to simply sustain our current form.

We must spend in the summer transfer window if we really do want to move forward.

 

If Mr Ashley not offer Joey new contract not buying good player and sell Cheik then maybe I leave. He need talking me.

It interested for what the money is doing in summer for new players. They said buying grass but we need striker for swap Andy. I like players but we not Europe good yet need more Spanish like me!

 

We dont want to buy too many spanish Jose - we will end up like Liverpooll!
