Tonight, the young defender Tom Bender was seriously injured during a match between Accrington Stanley and Tranmere.

It is believed that the 18 year old has broken his neck. The injury was so bad that the match was abandoned due to the players feeling too shocked to continue.

He is a Colchester United player and currently on loan with Stanley.

    Best wishes to young Tom.

All the best, Tom. I can only find the 'broken neck' story on the mail online and they don't attribute a quote to anyone who has said this so hopefully this isn't the case. Fingers crossed for him.

was treated on the pitch for 25 mins on the pitch while on unconscious! Sounds like a really bad one but skysportsnews are saying he's in a stable condition in hospital. Hope he's back and healthy asap
