Sorry, mate - no slight on Hugo, but there's only one No 1 for Spurs and that's Pat Jennings!! (Other than A certain Barry Daines of course )
After hearing Poch in the press conference its clear we have a good stock of keepers for many years to come. Best of the modern era Big Pat no question, but Hugo could match him if he gets those dodgy kicks sorted!
He was a lot slower than Hugo off the line..but his kicking was pretty good...he was arrowing that ball well. Hugo's kicking is dire.
Did he not say Brandon ( Austin ) was sub goalie whereas in actual fact it was Alfie Whiteman ( at least that was what was written on the line ups )
Had a respectable debut, once he got past the early nerves and ignoring his hesitation that could've been costly. A lot of people questioned this signing, myself included, so he's done well to quieten a few doubters with that performance. Maybe Lloris can teach him the art of the sweeper keeper, if he can teach France's number one to kick the ball?
In fairness, Lloris's distribution has been better in the last few games, although he's still some way behind the standards set by Robbo.
He distributed it into the opposition's goal though, so that's going to take some beating! Lloris is a fantastic keeper, but I do wonder at just how bad some of his kicking is. A few of our new additions need to be reminded regularly that he basically doesn't have a right foot, too. A couple of passes onto his bad side have given me nightmares!
Hugo will have to become an English citizen to have a chance of making improvements on that front. < England's number 1 >
It was brilliant to watch the rise of Gazza in his professional career, I've never forgotten the time Hessy brought him to the UK for nothing. Before he even got a first team place I watched the lad, and without a glimmer of doubt I said immediately the lad was destined for big things. When Ross Flitney got injured for us, he got his chance and never looked back, i was begging for the lad to get his chance and misfortune for Ross, was Gazza'a fortune. I was a season ticket holder back in them days and looking back now it was worth every penny just to have seen Paulo from his early beginnings. It was sad to see him go to Southampton but your never meet a genuine Gills supporter that would have bad word about him. He was pure quality that the likes of League Two football has not seen in a very long while. I know the expectations and standards are enormously higher at your level, but when you think this unknown guy was plucked out of the wilderness without a penny to his name, it certainly is fantastic to watch his rise to the level he has achieved.
Well said. I didn't know his story until recently - and I heard that from a Gills fan!! Thanks for posting.
Mind you, there was a certain Ted Ditchburn,a Scot named Brown and another fellow who left Liverpool to join us for a couple of seasons.
