They've raised their game a few times and taken a few notable scalps, so I think a draw would be a decent return.
If our strikers find their mojo at long last, 3-1 to the Gas. If they don't 1-1. If we get another red card 1-0 to Alfreton. I think I've covered all the bases!!
I'm holding you to that! I just hope all this talk of how we desperately need a new striker will spark our existing ones into action. I mean how many games can Brunty go without scoring a goal and still call himself a striker?
Darrell Clarke says Bristol Rovers will have to tough it out at Alfreton. Clarke said: "I think they are in a false position. They had a disastrous start to the season over the first six or seven games, but, at the moment they are one of the in-form teams. They won at Altrincham the other week and beat Torquay at home. They have also had a ten-day break from games, which will have allowed them to do plenty of work on the training ground. They had a good season last time, but, obviously, they lost John Akinde over the summer and have had a radical shake up in terms of the squad. We also have to take into consideration the prospect of playing on a sloping pitch in conditions that are not going to be great if you believe the weather forecast. Nicky Law also gets his teams very well-organised and they will definitely be a very big side from a physical point of view. I'll have to pick a team with all those things in mind. It's no good playing a team of physically small players against a team of big lads on a boggy pitch that does not lend itself to particularly good football. We have to get the mind-set right to deal with those things, but I think the players are getting better in that regard. They are all getting more familiar with what this league is about and have showed signs that they are starting to adapt to what they have to deal with when we are away from home in particular. You have to grind out wins in games like these and I would happily take a scrappy 1-0 victory."
A closer look at today's opponents Bristol Rovers return to Vanarama Conference action as they take the trip to Derbyshire to take on Alfreton Town at the Impact Arena. Opposition: Afreton currently sit in the relegation places in the Conference Premier table having collected 16 points from their opening 18 games however the Reds have claimed six points from their last three games including an impressive 4-2 victory at home to Torquay. Dangerman - Karl Hawley: The former Carlisle forward signed a one year deal with Alfreton in September 2014 having previosuly had spells at Torquay and Scunthorpe. Hawley has found the back of the net three times in ten appearances this season for the Reds, most recently getting on the scoresheet twice against former club Torquay. Darrellâs View: âTuesday night is going to be completely different from the weekend, slopey pitch, boggy so we need to be ready for that. âAnything can come into play, so I need to make sure that I pick the correct team for that game. âNicky Law will have a big physical team, they will be chucking balls into the box. âAt some of these places you might need to grind out the win and make sure you get the three points on offer. Team News: Andy Monkhouse continues to be suspended and the game appears to come too soon for the injured Neal Trotman. Last Meeting: This will be the first ever fixture between the two sides.
If our guys have been working on the training ground to get the ball to the byeline and cut it back to Brunty, he will get off the mark for sure. Its a bit like Gary Player said " The more I practise, the luckier I get"
Starting line up: Mildenhall, Leadbitter, Lockyer, McChrystal, Parkes, Brown, Mansell, Sinclair, Taylor, Brunt, White No idea what the formation is. 5 defenders, 2 midfielders and 3 strikers on the pitch! 523 formation Im guessing Lockyer moved to defensive midfielder to make a 433?? I have no idea!
What a bench!!! Subs: Puddy, Martin, Della-Verde, Cunnington, Harrison. Keeper, 2 wingers and 2 strikers!
Missing Trotman with injury Missing Gosling as on international duty Missing Monkhouse as suspended No back up defenders, unless Lockyer is playing in midfield so could drop in to defence if needed but we have no central midfielder on the bench to cover his midfield position!!
Just heard that it is 3 at the back Lockyer, McChrystal & Parkes. On the wings is Leadbitter & Brown with licence to attack. Mansell & Sinclair playing as holding midfielders. Taylor playing deep behind the 2 strikers who is Brunt & White. Playing 3412 formation. Should be interesting!!
