Today's new regarding the probable death of a Russian martyr has sent shock waves around the world even though we all expected his imprisonment to end in this terrible way. It was clearly obvious that Putin, like many of his murderous counterparts, would be the one to announce through his thugs a death sentence on Alexei no matter what anyone else thought. The only reason that he lived so long was because of a totally botched previous attempt on Alexei's life after he was poisoned by a Novichok type drug when the henchmen ordered to do the dirty work admitted that they had not administered enough of the toxin to be fatal. Incidentally the leaker of that shocking admission of guilt by default has never been seen again which is no surprise. We can only hope that there are people within the Navalny group who will take up his cause and lead to change that will rid Russia of another murderous threat to world safety. My thoughts are with his family at this tragic time and I urge them to never give up on Alexei's dream of a better Russia.
Putin enjoys popular support for now - and I admit it’s lasted longer than I thought, but gradually the Russian people will start waking up and smell it the coffee.
That’s wishful thinking imo, when any kind of opposition is dealt with in the most brutal way, and Putin controls the media. Even if the Russian people “wake up and smell the coffee” as you put it, they’re too frightened to do anything about it.
Sorry perhaps I didn’t explain my point well, but I agree with you. I meant that the mindset of ordinary Russians will change from popular support - which he still (surprisingly) has a lot of at present - to fear and loathing. The more he clamps down on people the more they will realise. It’s easy to rule a country when most people love you. It’s far more difficult to force direct rule over a population who are frightened and hate you. I’m not saying he will be overthrown any time soon, but people are starting to realise what a despot he really is.
I don’t disagree, but as most of the population won’t speak out even if they don’t agree with Putin, I’m not sure we can ever know how they think. Plus as the media is state controlled most Russians don’t get a true picture.
the population has been brainwashed by past events when crowds get to big they start shooting! so no one will risk it. They need to do as so many countries did before and take to the streets and overpower the police [ not really peoples police but Government thugs that dress as police and get given a life of luxury to do without question what the government wants... PRIGOZHIN was marching to Moscow and there was very little to stop him as the "armed forces and police on route did nothing" had he made it Moscow instead of faltering goodness knows how many people would have joined the fight against PUTRID ... there is a number of anti Putrid groups in RUSSIA and on the BOUNDARIES who are making small but damaging raids... last week a lorry load of HE was stopped in Georgia Georgian/ Ukranian/Armenian nationals arrested. .. I think Belarus has caught a number of groups / caches destined for Russia .. Belarussian/ Ukranians ... Some of these groups although not heavily armed do have memberships in 4 figures .... maybe low 5 figures! ...... still waiting for the main attack on the bridge! wonder when they get their first F16's FULLY ARMED JUST 1 COULD DESTROY THE BRIDGE BEYOND USE!
