Meh. I'd have said thanks but goodbye to be honest. As long as we sign a new keeper this summer, it might be tolerable but if we go into the season with Alex & Lumley as our options, I don't have much hope at all.
I would still be paying close attention to Palace. They have Henderson and Johnstone and one of those will not be playing. Both are better than our alternatives.
I am good with this. Some say he is old, over paid etc. He can only play when he gets the chance - he doesn't pick the team (or write the contracts for that matter). When he got the chance to play, he was one of the reasons our playoff campaign was successful. They say footballers aren't loyal anymore, well how about the club starts by rewarding people that stayed with us and when called up helped the cause.
He was our keeper during seasons we didn’t get relegated and by that strong logic he shouldn’t be seen as a bad player to have in the squad. I don’t trust him with the ball at his feet, which might mean Martin will have to temper the keep ball in our own box(which my heart is cool with) he does get caught at his near post etc, but he also makes some unbelievable saves. I thought his play off performances showed he benefited from the time off and I thought he was a bit more proactive in terms of commanding his area. I think there are better keepers out there, but as others say, money is needed in other areas first. .
Do people think we would have got promoted without him in the team. I think he gives our defence more confidence.
Great news, I`ve never understood the level of angst against him. Maybe something to do with that Brighton game where he didn`t handle that late injury situation well.
I think with Alex he has saves where you think "he should have got that", but he rarely has games where you think "we lost that because of him". Which is an improvement on current level Baz, and is probably true of most keepers.
Good grief! Not happy hoping we were going to get rid of both keepers and buy some decent ones instead
