I have to say, his recent actions with regards to the upcoming fixture between Man U and Liverpool has certainly made him go up in my estimation. His recent statements about fans behaviour, I must say I agree with him 100%. Obviously, my club isn't involved so it doesn't concern me directly, however I think what Ferguson is saying resonates with the entire football world and is applicable to, for example, the Southampton-Portsmouth rivalry, etc. I for one believe supporting your club is just that, it's not about hating other clubs and of course the circumstances around Sunday's match makes that even more applicable. So, I have to say, well done Ferguson.

    Good thread <ok>

Sadly all football clubs have a small amount of morons and United are no exception, Fergie was right to speak out and call for fans to not sing any hillsborough songs at the weekend game against Liverpool and hopefully the minority sing other chants not relating to the tragedy.

Every Liverpool fan I've talked to has been impressed in which the manner Sir Alex has gone about this issue. At the end of the day, we're all just football fans, and there is no room for chants mocking an organization about a devastating tragedy.

Fergie clearly saw how badly Liverpool handled the Suarez affair last year...
He has to make sure the club don't come out of this situation looking as bad as Liverpool did last year.

Liverpool - United games don't need any talking up... Yes, in recent years they have had less significance than our games against City... they may have even attracted less gloabl viewers, but they still mean alot to both sets of fans, for more than just football reasons.

His atitude towards all this has been impeccable, no mind-games or sly digs. He's showed lots and lots of dignity, well done Fergie.

I agree, Ferguson is not my favourite person for many reasons, but I do admire his record as a manager, and have done for many years.
His actions over the last few days have seen him go up loads in my estimation of him as a person, though I will add I can't bring myself to say I like him!

Can only echo what the majority have said - For all his faults he has handled this situation perfectly, and has provided the decent, genuine majority of man utd fans with the perfect stick to beat down any idiots that do see fit to chant about hillsborough tomorrow.

Wow what a naive post. The mocking of the deaths of 96 innocent fans is slightly more condemnable than a 'he said, she said' bullshit racism row between two players. Sort your priorities out

Umm that is exactly my point...
This issue is 100 times worse... So the club needs to make sure that they show their disapproval... How badly did the Suarez situation alone impact on people's views on Liverpool?
My priorities are fine, thank you... So stop trying to make something out of nothing.

I'm actually surprised that people seem so surprised that fergie would show such support to Liverpool...
