Just stumbled across this article: http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014/07/24/meet-alex-gorrin-the-sunderland-reject-who-embarrassed-west-ham/?utm_medium=share+service&utm_campaign=social+media&utm_source=twitter&utm_content=HITCsport Following on from what I was saying on the Hartlepool thread... how **** is our worthless ****ing youth setup? Another one who was highly rated for the U21s but never given a chance and released, and then runs the show (according to reports) against West Ham in his first game at his new club. Now, I know it's only a friendly, and I know one swallow doesn't make a summer, but it's still premier league opposition and ffs we never gave this lad a ****ing chance. Five years he was with us, five ****ing years and not one opportunity with the first team and not one single ****ing loan. What is the point? Surely the fact he has the ability to boss a prem team, friendly or not, at age 20 means he must have SOMETHING about him? And here's a thought, maybe he'd be even better if he'd played a single ****ing competitive game in his life?? **** this is pissing me off. I hope Gus sorts this **** out.
There was a bit of press around him when he signed and when he left I seem to remember. Was meant to be promising... Just like all the others we release!
Not gonna lose to much kip that a lad playing in New Zealand had a half decent game v a barely fit injury hit West Ham team in a meaningless friendly. I agree it's annoying that we ain't bringing players through but it seems a bit full on!
Had a few I'll be honest! Tbh it wasn't so much specifically about Gorrin, but just in general we never seem to give the lads a chance. Surely they should at least go out on loan to get some experience before we write them off?
Totally agree GG what you said first sentence. I was just thinking about some of the comments over the last few days about performances in the recent friendly's. There were a lot of positive comments about how well the kids played. I kept thinking, but it's a meaningless friendly against, Carlisle, Darlington.... Just how easy is it to judge how good a kid is against poor oppo in a pre-season friendly? I'd hate to be a manager and have some kids future in my hands on the basis of 45 minutes. It's a cut throat take-no-prisoners business is football.
Totally agree with the sentiment of that mate, I think in this instance if he'd been around 5 years there was little there, I'm sure we signed him on a long deal as he was highly rated at the time. We do need to give lads a chance, or at least try to! As I say above, we should be at least giving them a year on loan see if they step up and maybe even make 100k or summat back. Our biggest ever home grown sale, Jordan, went to Coventry for a year first.
He's playing for a team in New Zealand and it's in a friendly. It's hardly playing for Real Madrid in the champions league. I don't think we can look too far into this one.
Went on trial at Dortmund last summer Scored some absolute belters for the U21s, this one being the best (skip to 1.58 for the goal)
The way our seasons have gone recently we just could not afford to bring youngsters in so have gone out and bought a stopgap. Still surviving though.
Interesting comments by some experts above but having scene the West Ham players yesterday I can assure all that they're VERY annoyed "to have been outplayed" their words, not mine. They couldn't believe what they came up against, admitting that they'd completely under estimated the opposition, pre-season or not & congratulated the Phoenix on a wonderful victory! I've just seen Newcastle at an hour open training this morning & they're up for the game tomorrow, knowing that anything other than a 100% effort will not be good enough. Ps. Pardew & the team were brilliant, signing autographs, posing for photo's etc before it started. Most might consider him a total t**t but that obviously is not always the case.
