Sounds like Faurlin & Luongo are going to be the first choice midfield pairing going forward......... Team could look something like this after 31st January Smithies Perch, Ned, Hall, Konch Faurlin, Luongo Mackie Washington, Chery Polter This assumes that Phillips, Hoilett, Fer & Sandro all leave......if not then things get interesting......
That team is relegation material imo even with the 10 odd points we have in reserve now, and I don't think Washington is a midfield player. I hope Phillips stays plus one of the others, Fer of these 3, otherwise we will need to strengthen.
Why would that be relegation material when a similar team with underperforming wasters and Karl Henry is comfortably away from the relegation zone?
Whoever's in the midfield,they need to chip in with their fair share of goals,so far this season,Faurlin,Luongo and Henry have scored 0 between them!!
I can't quite work out why so many people see Washington playing in behind Polter. Washington should be our striker, end of.
Because the 3 more offensive midfield players in that 11 aren't good enough there - we wouldn't score many and we'd ship a load imo. Obviously I don't think Phillips is an "underperforming waster", and Mackie who is in his place in that 11 isn't good enough. As I said Washington isn't a midfield player, in the current system he will normally only be an alternative to Polter. Fer, Hoillet and Sandro would all be better in Washington's place in that 11. Chery hasn't shone since early season, Hoillet and Fer are being picked in front of him no doubt because underperforming or not, they are better now than Chery.
Who's to say? I can't believe Chery and Washington would be less productive than Fer and Hoilett though that would mean 4-4-2. Would anyone be less effective than Fer?
I wish someone would have the balls to play 4-4-2 mate. Leicester seem to be one of the few clubs prepared to play this way and they aren't doing to shabby
I tend to agree and I was an ardent 4231 man. However it asks a lot of the two in the middle especially with wide players as lazy as ours. I think it needs a Diakite type, but less nuts.
This. For the 30 mins they were on the pitch together both Washington & Polter seemed to have a good understanding. Washington has great pace and if we can use Polter as the target man to feed him, there are plenty of goals to come. The more they play together the better understanding they will develop. Pretty good on last night's evidence.
I think it's slowly becoming fashionable again, but it does require a very hard working midfield, with two effective wide men and an excellent holding player. I'm really not sure we have the players for it.
