Former Reds striker John Aldridge has expressed his pride at finishing top of a recent Liverpoolfc.com feature which examined the most accurate penalty takers in the club's history. please log in to view this image The 54-year-old converted 17 of the 18 spot-kicks he attempted in Liverpool colours, registering a success rate of 94.4 per cent. His single miss came in the 1988 FA Cup final against Wimbledon, and Aldridge reflected that his record remains 'bittersweet' even now. "It was bittersweet finding out that I've been voted Liverpool's best ever penalty taker on the club website," he told the Liverpool Echo. "I scored 17 out of 18 during my Reds career - a success rate of 94 per cent. However, the one I missed still haunts me. "It hurts more as a fan than as a player as I know that penalty probably cost us the double." {LINK} - - - - - - - - - Anyone else reckon he'd swap that record and all seventeen he scored to just score the one he missed...?
Sympat... I reckon he would possibly. Those that directly cost you something usually do haunt you. Still remember Aldo's last game when he chucked his boots into the crowd, these days someone would sue him for that and the FA would ban him. Couldn't have gotten a better replacement for Rushie. no one took penos like Aldo
I met Aldo this evening, and David Johnson for that matter. Couple of top blokes, right up for a laugh.
Yeh, was my birthday today so Missus got me tickets which was nice of her. Some fantastic stories from both of them, good night all round.
