Drummer for John Lennon and Yes. Born and grew up near Chester-le-Street. Leaned his trade in the clubs.
Great drummer, some great musicians came through the club's in the 60's/70's/80's they were proper hotbeds, my old man used to do a bit singing back in the day and had a few stories, shame there's not many clubs left.
...also a shame that these bollox-crap shows on a saturday night seem to be choosing all the 'talent' these days, no learning a trade just scream into a mike 3 or 4 times and get a contract, have a good year or two till cowell drops you cos you now realise you were getting ripped off. the club turn was the highlight of the week, you knew they were at least ok by the cover charge cost.
Exactly it's like serving your time learning the ropes, my old man said you would live or die by your ability in the club's.
