Now favourite with skybet to be next Cardiff manager. Would this finally be the first step on the road to him becoming a "proper" manager?

Must admit i think it would be a good first job for him but would he really want to give up his cushy job on the MOTD sofa with the two scouse lovers? Mind you i have heard that MOTD might lose premiership coverage due to BBC cut backs and their new non sport loving chairman. So he may not have a job with the BBC much longer!

He should have gone into management the same way as Lee Clark and learnt the trade at a much lower level where managerial nous is developed without the availability of a largish transfer budget.

I can just see him going to Cardiff and trying to find his feet as a manager whilst pressure mounts because Cardiff will be hoping for a title challenge/play off place.

Shearer can't deliver the ambitions, get sacked and that'll be the end of his managerial career.

This would only be acceptable if he also hates reality television, gameshows that don't involve difficult questions, the new idiot in charge of ruining Horizon and Huw Edwards.

Edit - on topic I agree entirely with overseas. Lee Clark has done it properly and Shearer just doesn't seem management material at all, he lacks the charisma and possibly the patience.

Would rather Shearer was an assistant somewhere first, then took on a club with little expectations.

If he does go there that will be the end of Bellamy's Cardiff career

Would prefer it if he learnt his trade at the bottom with low expectations but the problem would be that as soon as he starts doing well he would get a high profile job because of his name a la Paul Ince at Blackburn.

    I completely agree with OT.

Shearer will be under immediate pressure to get results and only a top 6 finish next year resulting in promotion to the Premiership will be good enough.
It would be far better to go to a League 1 club and develop as a manager without so much pressure.

  10. I think Shearer should manage a mid table team in league 1 that's fairly local like Hartlepool. This way he'd be under no massive amount of pressure striaght away, and he'll also be able to catch up with Nobby Solano. Shearer as manager and Nobby as captain. Cracking team spirit it could be.

    Cardiff fan here,

Funny how a few of you have mentioned Lee Clarke as he has been interviewed and is in the running apparently. The majority of fans are split between Hughton and Makay (hughton for me).

As for Bellamy, his popularity down here is massive especially considering he asked to come to Cardiff and dropped down a division, I fully understand how Newcastle fans might not like him but he is worshipped down here (although not on a Shearer level in Newcastle) point being though Shearer would lose any popularity battle with Bellamy everyday of the week.

I have just replied to a thread on the Cardiff board regarding Shearer as manager saying I personally wouldnt mind him but I am the only one it seems, doesnt look like he's wanted.

Think you'd be better off with Hughton in all honesty mate. Shearer at present doesn't have the managerial experience to bring you up, not sure you have the money to finance his likely list of players. Hughton has been there, done it and got 102 t-shirts with us.

Would take Hughton as manager everyday of the week. Still cant believe he got sacked by the powers that be at NUFC, just doesnt make sense but I imagine you have heard all this before.

He's in a totally different position to Clarky, much as we loved him he wasn't a big name in football. Shearer was and will be under pressure no matter where he goes.
