Is about to retire from Match of the Day after 22 years on the show. "Alan Hansen will retire as a Match of the Day pundit after 22 years following next summer's World Cup. Hansen, 58, has been a leading analyst on Britain's most-watched football show since 1992 after a stellar playing career with Liverpool. "I've been in football for 41 years and I'm going out right at the top, just as I did at Liverpool," he said. "I have worked for a great organisation with wonderful people on the most fantastic programme." After arriving from Partick Thistle, Hansen went on to captain Liverpool during one of the most dominant periods in British football history. The cultured centre-back won eight First Division titles, two FA Cups, four consecutive League Cups and three European Cups in a 14-year spell at Anfield that ended in 1991. The Scotland international swapped the dressing room for the television studio a year later, earning a reputation as one of the most insightful and influential pundits in the country while working alongside figures such as Des Lynam, Gary Lineker, Mark Lawrenson, Alan Shearer and Sir Trevor Brooking. "I've worked with arguably two of the best in Gary [Lineker] and Desmond Lynam. Des was the best, and is the best, because he was just an unbelievable presenter," he told the Daily Telegraph. Continue Reading on BBC Sport. I know he had some haters and he was often very condescending towards newly Promoted Clubs but I actually like Hansen. Thought he was straight to the point.
This ^^^^. He says it as it is and does not care who he offends. As he was a top player who won most things who is anyone to question him. ? BBC should try and get Stan Collymore onto the show. imo.
How does your 1st paragraph justify your 2nd? Collymore is the polar opposite to Hansen in both his professional & personal life.
Stan Collymore is one of the better pundits on the go nowadays and imo would be a good replacement as he speaks his mind just like Hansen. SC also played at the top level and knows the game very well.
SC is a thick Brummie twat who is a dogger, woman-beater and whacky-baccy user. Note sure how many gongs he won or how many World Cups he played in. It's like saying Gwilym Lloyd could replace Brian Glanville.
Dont be so stupid. But SC is no angel i would agree but compared to most pundists he knows his stuff. Sky have the worst collection of pundits overall going. Only Charlie Nicholas - Chris Kamara - Peter Beagre - Naill Quinn - Gary Neville - Jamie Carragher are worth listening to. imo.
Find it odd it always has to be an ex player. I'd argue a football fan would be a better pundit, but this wouldn't sit well within the industry. Hansen was an incredible player and raised the bar as far as punditry is concerned. Think Lawrensen tried to raise the bar via wit (which didn't work) but again was a great player Always liked Lee Dixon, but probably not famous enough anymore to become a regular pundit. No idea who I would pick, but please not bump up Shearer or Savage
I understand that English is his second language, but he has the voice of a schoolgirl choking on Jimmy Savile's cock Edit: Tickler proves once again that he is a complete mong
You say SKY have the worst collection, then go and say that half of them aren't bad. MOTD will comfortably have the worst (BT Sport aside) when Hansen retires. I personally don't mind Hansen, can't he take Shearer with him? He's a right ****.
I know he couldn't do it being a manager an' all, but I found that Roberto Martinez when he was punditting at the World Cup was probably one of the best I've listened to in recent years. Seriously good.
I think Peter Beagre is excellent, he's knowledgeable, witty and seems to respect all clubs, you get none of that 'all the promoted clubs will get relegated' bollocks from him. In fact, I'd make him Prime Minister.
Wayne Rooney plays the game at the top level, but I bet he'd be a ****ing ****e pundit when he retires.
