http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17184791 So, what goes around comes around! Particularly relevant is the quote from Hansen: ""I'm not saying for one minute he'll leave Cardiff because he has great affinity with the supporters and the football club." I (and I suspect a few more on this board) would say exactly that. "He's proved at Watford and he's proved at Cardiff that he's a top class manager," added the former Scotland international. He proved what at Watford?.... "top class manager" - I think not. He may be doing OK at Cardiff so far but the January/February curse that we had at Watford under him seems to have bitten at Cardiff. One League Cup Final and 6th place in the league (and falling) does not make him a cert for the Premiership - after all a certain Aidy B actually won promotion with us. Having said all that, expect Mackay to jump at the first half decent chance to manage at the top level (and to take his back room staff and a couple of players with him.....leaving the fans and the football club, who he has great affinity with, high and dry)........
He did prove a couple of things. 1) He is an ungrateful knob 2) He is a mediocre manager. Dave Jones record with Cardiff is still better, and if he does not get promotion i would love to see him sacked!! I can see him walking away the second a bigger offer comes up.
I see what Alan Hansen is saying. MM did well for us in a managing capacity in a difficult time and like BR before him the team lost its direction in the second half of the season, and things look like they might be repeating in Cardiff. Who knows what will happen in three months MM could be sacked for not getting into the EPL, he could be poached by a second level EPL club or a newly put down club, like Blackburn. It is just what he did afterwards that have caused problems.
I liked Malky. And to be honest I wish him well despite not knowing the intricacies of his departure. He will do OK but he's no star. Alan McCurbishly comes to mind.
