Striker Alan Gow has signed on loan for the rest of the season from the Grecians with Eliot Richards going in the opposite direction, and it looks like permanently. Good bye Eliot, thanks and hope you do well. However, on Twitter he claims to be 'sad to leave' and that his 'hand had been forced'. Thoughts Gasheads? http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristo...es-deal-sign/story-20584753-detail/story.html
I thought Gow stood out at the Mem. So I don't have a problem with this switch. It will be interesting to see who plays where and with what tactics.
He doesn't strike me as the quickest which is what we're missing, but if he's got an eye for a goal and shakes up the team a bit, he could well be what we need. I'm a bit disappointed about losing Eliot - he clearly doesn't want to go and I thought he was our best player against Accrington and on a few other occasions this season. Trouble is, Ward kept playing him out wide where I prefer him through the middle. We will see. The good thing is that the club is taking proactive steps to halt the slide.
All I care about is staying in the league so If Richards (can be a good player when he wants) has to move out and another player come in to achieve this then so be it
http://www.exeweb.com/forums/showthread.php?53339-Gow-gone/page 7 Exeter lads don't seem too keen on losing Gow.
Something needed to be done. Almost everyone can see that on his day Richards can produce the goods....but that day comes around only once in a while. Ward has got two strikers in....so it's a case of let's wait and see if he's done the right thing... ...but at least he's done something!
Exeter fans are indeed livid, reading that thread on their forum. Most claim that Gow was their most creative player and one that can change games - he was also their highest earner. Here's the thoughts of a Grecianette on her blog: http://ontheroadwithkb.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/how-to-lose-fans-and-alienate-people.html We lack pace, which we will still do unless Ward plays Alfie or the (hopefully) rejuvenated Ellis on the wings, but we also lack a bit of nous and creativity up front as he insists on playing Clarkson in midfield or not at all. With that in mind, this could be a very good move. However, I still would've liked to have kept Eliot and maybe not signed Gillespie. Nothing against the lad and his abilities, but he does seem very, very injury prone which is exactly what we don't need at the minute. On Saturday I'd like to see Gow and Clarkson up front with Ellis and Alfie on the wings with JJOT and Norburn/Clucas in the middle.
blooming heck! i dont normally do overtime but 2 days this week i do overtime and both days as a result i return home late to find i have miss all the action!! 1st was gillespie and now its gow and richards!!! excited about gow joining us and gutted about richards. i think he has a lot of potential and for a few seasons now we all been saying he needs to start producing the goods but keeps getting set backs. i think we will miss him as he has a bit of pace and his thinking ability gives him extra space and he can also play on the wings where we actually lack players in that position. could be a bad move letting richards go but gow is a very good player for this league and if he can fit in straight away and gillespie too we should be just fine.
Welcome Alan! Time to deliver the goods for the Gas! he could be that extra bit of quality we need to get out of the mire.
tweets from richards..... "After my hand being forced I'm sad to be leaving but very excited to get started at Exeter city. Ward said: “We became aware that Alan hadn’t played the last three games, and that there was the possibility he might be available for loan. We spoke to the club and confirmed this and as part of the conversation it was discussed about Eliot Richards moving the other way. Alan is an experienced striker, and he is Exeter’s top goal scorer so far this season, and that is what we are trying to bring to our side. Alan knows the league and the situation and hopefully he can kick in here quickly. Along with Steven Gillespie, we hope he can improve our strikeforce, and then he will be a good signing. Football is full of surprises, and Eliot has not played every game for us. Sometimes we need to make these decisions, and his going to Exeter was part of the deal. We wanted to try and freshen up the squad, and we hope we have done that. We wish Eliot well for the rest of the season, and thank him for all he has done for us.”
Higgs said: “We are delighted to bring Alan to the club. He is an experienced attacking player with a proven goal-scoring record. He is currently Exeter’s top goal scorer, and he has always stood out when he has played against us in the past. Eliot has been a good servant to the club, and we hope a spell away from the Memorial Stadium will be good for him, and allow him to recapture his form. We wish him all the best for the rest of the season."
