Alain Rolland spared refereeing Wales matches during Six Nations after Sam Warburton red card at World Cup

Alain Rolland, who sent off Wales captain Sam Warburton in the World Cup semi-final, will not be involved in any of the country’s matches during this season’s RBS Six Nations Championship.

The former Ireland scrum-half became public enemy No 1 in Wales last month when he dismissed Warburton for a dangerous tackle on Vincent Clerc after just 18 minutes of the semi-final defeat by France.

Rolland was criticised for being too hasty in dismissing Warburton, though the Cardiff Blues flanker later pleaded guilty to making a dangerous tackle and was suspended for three weeks. Rolland will not officiate in any of Wales’s matches in the forthcoming Six Nations, nor will he be involved as an assistant referee or television match official.

The International Rugby Board gave no explanation for Rolland’s absence from Wales’s matches, but it will be the first time since 2008 that he has not taken charge of one of their games.

“It was a very tough selection process. The overall standard of performance by the match-official team during Rugby World Cup was exceptionally high and they can be proud of their contribution to a wonderful tournament,” said IRB referees selection committee chairman David Pickering. - By Paul Bolton - The Telegraph

I said at the time, I hope he never officiates a Wales game again, and it looks as if he never will, good enough I say, we don't need questionable referee's like him!...............

Well I for one am delighted. In football refs are critisised far too much in rugby not at all, thats why the IRB always back the refs. Rolland Rat is a cheating twat, end of.

Also don't know if this is true but I have heard he is due to ref the turks pretty soon, I'm sure they'll give him a warm welcome !

Feck him. He is a horrible conceited man. who wants to be the centre of attention when he refs. If he never refs wales again it will be far to soon.

Per Wikipedia - People from Llanelli are sometimes nicknamed "Turks". The origin of this name is uncertain. One theory is that many Turkish sailors once called at the port of Llanelli during their voyages.

Ok can anyone confirm or deny the rumour I've heard which is that Rolland rat is reffing the Scarlets in Turktown on Saturday 12th against Castres !

If so I think I may well pop down there

Its a clear cop out by the referee board. They said at the time that they though he was right and backed him fully then they pull him from ANY level of officiating ANY Wales games. If that isnt a masked 'he ****ed up' i dont know what is!!!

TBH all refs **** up, it's not gonna make a difference now, we had our chances, lots of em ! And we ****ed up more than the ref did, think its time to move on as we can't alter history .
