Those that go to the ground, probably know of and sometimes pick up a copy of AKUTRs (A Kick up the Rs). One of those old-fashioned (i.e. printed) fanzines; it is run by the great Dave Thomas and he does an awesome job. AKUTRS is such an institution around our club and has been around for about 30 years now. As with all printed media, sales of have been falling in the last years and costs rising. At the end of last season Dave was worried about carrying on....but he has and for that those of us who love reading all about our beloved club are eternally grateful. Clive and our own Rollercoaster Ranger are regular contributors and occasionally , very occasionally there have been a few off-topic contributions from yours truely. If you haven't looked at an issue recently, you really should do; it is professionally produced and is contains current discussion on the team, analysis of all games (DaveT goes home and away), historical reports and many other topics related to football as a whole. You can get your copy in many ways...buy outside the ground and Dave also does a postal service for those who live far away and those that live overseas. So if you like it why not get a subscription. If interested, details are at http://www.akutrs.com/subscriptions/4593974993 Whatever way you do it...please try and keep AKUTRs going...at least buy a copy at the next match and have a look yourself...You will be happily surprised
I have known Dave for over 30 years (bloody hell where has the time gone)! I know what a fantastic job he and the rest have done over the time. I used to be an avid reader of AKUTR and I believe one of my early articles was published. Sadly with instant news at you fingers, the hardback AKUTR is outdated before it goes to print. I always try to buy one when I can but all fanzines are suffering as well.
I was a regular reader/purchaser when I lived down there, and bought a copy at the last couple of matches I have been to - probably a better buy than the program!
I remember when it started, when every club had one going and they were in fashion. Was always a good read, and Dave is always ready to have a chat. I wish him and AKUTRs well
Might do a subscription as whenever I buy one at the game I end up losing it. If it sits on my coffee table it’ll be read eventually or at least act as a coaster.
Aaah, you have a coffee table. I love the young property owning bourgeoisie. Do you have any coffee table books? I think Rollercoaster Ranger, late of this parish, writes for this fanzine sometimes. He’s always been keen to buy a copy when I have walked from pub to Loft with him, trying to maintain a decent distance from Terry as he argues with half and half scarf sellers on their ethics and morality.
This has been around for about as long as I’ve had the flat. Might have a flick through it as I’ve never bothered to actually open it before but it looked funny in a quirky little shop in Windsor.
Outstanding, that’s literature. May I suggest that you pair it with Beyond Good and Evil by Neitzsche, illustrated edition? No need to read it either, but the duo will cement your metropolitan intellectual elite status for any visitor.
