Arsene Wenger has confirmed during his press conference today that both Akpom & Coquelin have extended their contracts at the club

Good news to tie them both down now, they are very promising players. The Coquelin situation reminds a bit of Flamini a few years ago, he was fairly average and then had a great season and we thought we'd discovered our future DM, we tried to tie him down and he ****ed off to AC Milan on a free. This time we've made sure our man is staying <ok>

Interesting comparison. I think our rebuilding process forced our hand to make many unfavorable decisions, another player being Diarra. Times have changed and we are more in the driving seat to make more assertive decisions.

Pleased to see both sign on. Know a lot less about Akpom and find myself slightly less enthused but I'd like to see us try and get a youth product through the ranks. Certainly in size, strength and pace he seems to have it. Maybe it's just me being niggly or maybe it's him just trying to impress too hard but I felt he was a bit selfish in his cameos, trying to do more than necessary to score himself rather than choosing simple assists.

Coquelin has earned a contract through his professionalism. It's not often you see somebody grasp an opportunity the way he has so all power to him. It may be neither work out but at least we're being proactive for once.
