I guess it no surprise given his history but sad news for AJ. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1161823/qpr-strikerjohnson-out-for-the-season?cc=5739 Personally I was pleased we didn’t renew his contract as despite his injury history I didn’t particularly rate him as a striker… From what I’ve seen of him at QPR this season (limited to MOTD highlights) he made a good start there. Looks like he’s out for the season now. Despite where he's gone I wouldn't wish this on him on him. Giving the horrific injury history he’s had over the last few seasons I hope he recovers from this, and recovers quickly.
Let's not go into the AJ debate again. Suffice to say that he's probably better than his worst detractors maintain and not as good as his greatest defenders argue. He always worked hard for the team, but his best days were long before he signed for us. Sorry to see him fall to another major injury.
It's probably time for AJ to hang up the boots. A year off and the long-term problems associated with that kind of injury (which I had, twice) won't help his pace. Without his pace, his contributions would limited. I'm with the Captain on this - he was a professional through and though. He always worked his socks off and never complained about playing time, as far as I could tell.
Guess it puts a big question mark on his future, so got to feel for the guy. Stumps QPR a tad in that they have a full nominated 25 man-squad and can't replace him till January, unless they bring in an U21 player (which I doubt they have - Raheem Sterling was their only real up and coming youngster and of course they let him go to Liverpool).
I will say this once and only once, if any QPR fan bites back I won't retaliate. I am delighted by this news. Treated FFC with absolutely no respect after we stuck by him through his injury troubled past, paying him £45K p/w too. Demanded a contract extension after scoring three against a woeful QPR side but Jol knew better and showed him the door. More fool Hughes. He is as bad as Bullard in my eyes. We made him our record transfer, he let us down in regards to goal return and fitness and has the cheek to demand an extension with wage increase. I'd be lying if I said this news didn't bring a smirk to my face.
I think this is a bit harsh on AJ. With regards to his goals per game ratio he was a let down, and when you take into account the amount we paid for him it makes him a massive let down. He didn’t demand we paid Everton £10m for him… Hodgson wanted him and thought he was worth the money so we paid Everton the money. I’m sure he didn’t want to be injured as much as he was it’s just bad luck. As a player (although in my opinion not good enough) he always acted like a professional and gave 100% when on the pitch. I don’t think he treated the club badly he believed he was worth a certain salary over a certain period and we didn’t think he was, so he left the club. I don’t see anything wrong with that… his contract expired so he moved on. He acted with a lot more professionalism than a few of our players who moved on in the summer or last January. He was out for a long long time picking up 45K a week. But that’s why players are insured so it wouldn’t have cost us 45K a week. Do you expect him to pay it back because we wasn’t playing?
I think the crux of it is that he badmouthed the club and Jol over the summer after his move, which is a dick move after we supported him throughout his contract, which he was injured through most of. No, he didn't ask to get injured but he did ask for a pay rise(!!) and a longer contract and then threw a strop because he didn't get it. If I was off sick from work for 8 or 9 months at a time then rocked up and asked for a pay rise I'd probably get a slap!
Bidley is right, a lot of my gripe with him is an interview he gave once he joined QPR where he bad mouthed Jol and said Jol was purposely leaving him out of the team, despite AJ's delusion that he was good enough to start. My respect for Zamora went up due to the fact he kept his mouth shut when he joined QPR and refused to bad-mouth Jol when he perhaps had a reason to. People who leave the club and have only good things to say about us (Dembele) deserve our respect and so get it. People who throw their toys out of the pram when they have been treated like kings by FFC do not (Dempsey, AJ) This injury is a form of karma. He believed he deserved better here and now he has gotten what he deserved.
All who have seen my posts regarding AJ,by now know my feelings. Now In a calm and relaxed manner, thank god he went saving our club massive expenses, for which he did not show any appreciation, and my week by week frustration. Lets hope no one takes his 75yr old scoring record, matches played (or lack of them). "He is now a problem for others and the costs that go with it.
He was a problem for us with his injuries, not being able to get any consistency in his career for most of his clubs, and now he is QPRs problem. Agree with others having badmouthed us, he gets no sympathy from me.
This is the interview by the way http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11711/7905543/Johnson-admits-to-Jol-rift "Martin Jol is a great coach, but the truth is we didn't see eye to eye," said Johnson. "I had several conversations with him about playing me out wide, but they went nowhere. "I can play the role, but it's not my best position, and there are not many wingers who score a lot of goals from out wide. "Last year I don't think I got the amount of games my early-season form warranted." I don't think we got the goals that your inflated transfer fee and wages warranted either Andy.
I know strikers want to play through the middle, but for the wedge he was getting for playing, he should have been happy to be in goal if needs be! Where was he expecting to play? Pogrebnyak was up top on his own and by this point was in red hot form, Dempsey was out wide and scoring for fun and Dembele, our best player was through the middle. You are not a big cheese anymore Andrew. I defended him during his time here on occasion but was delighted to see him leave the club, like Zamora, he has outstayed his welcome.
You're delighted the bloke has picked up a serious knee injury despite always putting in a shift for you? He wasn't value for money but that's the fault of whoever decided he was worth £10m. I very much doubt he demanded a wage increase and would welcome any proof you have of this. If you don't like the guy then fair enough, albeit a bit petty but to actually get delight from a footballer being badly injured says more about you than anything he did (or more likely you wrongly believe he did) to FFC.
He put in enough shifts on the treatment table, I'll give you that. I personally wouldn't wish any kind of injury on a player, but it's a total fallacy to say AJ was a good ol' boy and a hard grafter when the reality is, he was (quite literally) injured more often than not. Not his fault, no, but not the definition of the hard worker that everyone seems to think he is.
I'm not sure how being injury prone translates to him not working hard for the team when picked. Throughout his career, regardless of form, he's put in 100%.
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...t-of-his-worth-or-he-quits-article829660.html “I will never forget returning against Wigan last Christmas when the whole stadium gave me a standing ovation. “You can’t buy support like that.” “It was hard. Without dedication and support from my family and the medical staff at Fulham I would never have come through this. Then the true colours shine through: “They have made me an offer to stay and I don’t feel it’s *appropriate to go into the *details of that offer,” he said. “But I have to take into *account many things before I can commit my future to the club and I feel the contract should reflect my worth. “It will be the last big *contract of my career and *primarily I have to do what is right by my family. “And if that contract doesn’t reflect that then I will weigh up my options. There is your proof, now **** off.
