Those who don't agree please don't shoot me down for this but i think a sensible appointment could be bringing back Aidy Boothroyd. I know some fans will have reservations about that but I think it would be a good signing for the following reasons. He should have learnt from his previous experiences that he needs to play more football and be less arrogant. IMO he would be interested because of our history together, the fact he is out of work and is looking to get back in and i wouldn't have thought he would get a bigger offer. He had his most successful period with us when we had very little money and when we were in the sort of position we are now and IMO he has proved himself to be able to work with small money. He started the Harefeild Acadamy and understands the way the club works ie our youth policy. He is ambitious and would want to take the club forward and drive to get the best out of everyone. I think he is a good enough manager to secure survival at least which is what we want after this summer of turmoil. He is the sort of name particularly with his assosiation to our club that might keep our best players here especially the likes of Eustace whom he signed a few seasons ago. Finally he has a great relationship with the majority of our fans. He would get the full backing of most IMO and help put people's minds at rest the club are moving foward. I don't think people would expect promotion straight away second time round and because of our relationship together, respect i and i think others have for him, he would get time (provided he learnt from the past and played the sort football we are capable of) to build the side and try and improve it. Thoughts?
Not looking backwards, but instead thinking of people who can take us forwards. Boothroyd has definitely learnt since he managed us, and the reason he's been brought up is his previous knowledge and love of the club. Of course, we may have other, perhaps better, targets, but it is always a good idea to keep as many options open as possible, so that we don't waste ages seeking a new manager, when we could install someone quickly and give them the summer to start building their team and getting to know the squad.
No thanks... not for me. I prefer not to get neck ache at the Vic! Interesting article on the Beeb, not sure if it's been put up anywhere, but the Great Tommy Mooney has said that we're not a sinking ship. Which came as a great relief to me for one! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13807632.stm
We know he hasn't learnt so the answer is no. It's a backwards move especialy as our football has moved on and i don't want to get out the neckbrace again thanks!
Not wanting to start a thread in a thread about franchise - Robbo at the MKDons would be a good shout (and not cos I live there)
At first I thought you were a WUM, but having read your spiel I think you actually believe what you say. OK you need hospital treatment is the polite version. As a person who sat there on 31 Jan 2008 wondering if the board had lost faith in AB, I realised yes they had. He should have been sacked in Jan 08 after Adam Johnson had gone back to M'Boro. He should have been sacked in May 08 after the disastrous drop to the edge of the play offs and the comprehensive Hull defeat. And then that Blackpool game in Nov 08, I walked hom saying "he has to go" and finally he went. 3 years later he has disappeared thankfully. But you want to bring him back. I'm off to the bookies to put money on Joseph Stalin at 50/1! Please tell me you're a L**** fan!
I would be happy to have him back, if he has managed to find a backup plan other than HOOFball. what he did with the club was nice, getting us promoted, but he then spent stupid money on some stupid players and has helped land us in the mess we are in now. However he will have GT to answer to and i think GT can guide him in the right direction. However, my heart is wanting Hughton! He as a 52.5% win rate!!!
aidy??? learned his lesson?? ask Colchester and Coventry if that is so. I remember hoping he had learned lessons and reading their boards trying to wish him well, but their fans were sighing in desperation the way I was for best part of the last couple of years of his reign. I was nearly brainwashed to believe that grass was blue and sky was green, at least that's what my neck told me, as I tried to follow the flightpath of the ball.
Perhaps you can get John Still manager of Dagenham and Redbridge as a caretaker. Then he could say to Elton....wait for it... I'm Still, Stand-in sorry
What was that about returning to a firework once it has been lit? Er, no thanks, might get burned again!
I wouldn't say no, but he'd have to not play Hoofball, and he'd have to have learned to find cheap players! Apparently, btw, Ellington is rumoured to be going to Ipswich...good luck to them!
Elixir - I think your personal attack about me either being a WUM or Luton supporter is totally unfair just because i have a different opinion on who the next manager should be to you. You have an opinion so do i, just because you do not agree with me does not make your opinion more vaild or correct it is an opinion. I resent all of the comments you made in your earlier post!
Oh my, someone is asking for an apology. What do you want me to say - good debate or something? OK I'm trying to understand your view "I'll have him back as long as he changes his spots". Hey its nothing personal, but sometimes some views are just Nuts ..... I have his home address in Bromsgrove if you want it? I think your views are so wide of the mark that I wrote what I wrote. I mean I took some right stick for mounting a campaign to sack him in Jan 2008 and continuing it through the whole summer whilst Aidy was saying "I've changed I will play nice football". I eventually got an apology from my critics. In fact I just laughed and my children (10 and 12) asked "what's up .... I explained and their views are best summed up as "No Way". If you look back I have been very positive about where the board is going on MacKay's replacement (Waddock), so I haven't only been negative!
Aidy is a nice guy and I find him amusing in a Jack Dee kind of dead pan way. Does that mean he should be given another go here no way, he's proven that he doesn't learn from his mistakes, is a one trick pony and definitely not suited to the Watford we now have. He's been sussed and hasn't got a plan B so will not repeat the success he had with us first time around IMHO.
Elixir, you are entitled to a different opinion but so is Chris, Aidy worked wonders with the club and got us to the premiership in 1 and a half years!! Yes we failed epicly and he massively overspent when we were there, but he was never as bad as Vialli!!!! He started well at Coventry, it was just his lack of a back up plan which tripped him up. Managers learn and grow and he is doing that. Saying someone needs hospitalising is out of order, and calling someone a l*t*n fan is never called for (except for Garry).
