www.safc.com/news/team-news/2019/march/mcgeady-player-of-the-year-award Aiden McGeady has been named in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Year and nominated for the annual Player of the Year award. The Republic of Ireland international, who was awarded the Player of the Month gong in February, has been named in the top XI alongside a host of players from promotion rivals Barnsley, Portsmouth, Luton Town and Doncaster Rovers. From that, McGeady has since been shortlisted for the Player of the Year award alongside Rovers’ John Marquis and Luton’s James Collins. The 32-year-old has mostly been in scintillating form after missing the opening few months of the season, racking up 10 league goals and five assists as Sunderland A.F.C. look to secure an immediate return to the Championship. The winner will be revealed at the 2019 EFL Awards on Sunday 7th April at the Grosvenor House Hotel Park on Park Lane in London. An outstanding performance for a cup winning team on sunday will do his cause no harm . . . . good luck, Aiden, lad
Feel a bit sorry for keepers sometimes, they often get overlooked because they aren't as eye catching. If you transferred the standard of McLaughlin's performances onto a CF he'd be top scorer by a mile. Having said that McGeady has been great and deserves a lot of praise.
I don't know, but maybe the people who decide about the Third Division best Xl thought that another team's 'keeper performed better than ours throughout the season
Obviously but in my opinion and as the poll on here showed many of us think that McLaughlin has been a better keeper than McGeady has a forward. Whoever this better keeper is must have had a hell of a season.
Just had a look at the stats - he has more clean sheets , more penalty saves and less goals conceded than McLaughlin. Not bad for a defender http://www.espnfc.com/player/45548/adam-davies
I wonder about the save percentages, that's the important stat for me because clean sheets and goals conceded are likely more of a reflection on the defence than the keeps and our defence isn't our strong suit. I had a look at the link but if it was on there I couldn't see which abbreviation it was.
Absolutely - Morinho was often asked about De Gea - his response was almost always along the lines of "That's his job, what do you expect him to do" and I think that's the keeping attitude sadly! McLaughlin has been excellent without any shadow of a doubt - I honestly think we'd have stayed up had we had him last season!!
Barnsley keeper has better players in front of him and this might explain the clean sheets, Pinnock in particular looks a class apart.
He was out of football working as a High School PE teacher - and why was he wearing Brandi Chastain's sports bra?
