Their stats seem to compliment one another. Agger wins the duels, Skrtel recovers and both pass well.

No doubt they are one of the best defensive partnerships in the PL atm.

If Agger stays fit then they could become a great partnership and be compared to some of the pairings we have had in the past.

Then compliment each other perfectly. They are perfectly balanced.

Skrtel - very good player, with slight limitations
Agger - AWESOME player, for me the MOST technically gifted CB in the world bar none, I cant think of ANY CB as good as Agger with the ball at his feet

Agreed. While his injuries mean he didn't get the level of consistency that lets say Puyol did, on his day he's top 5 in Europe. His link up play is the best of any defender in the world. Skrtel I can't say is as good but in tackles and aerial duels he's an enforcer and really does his business with no nonsense. A great partnership.

These stats are nice but the fact still remains that we have conceded twice as many goals as Arsenal & Chelsea

If they are so great and Johnson is so great why is our defence so ****? Sorry but Skrtel is not good enough. 90% of the time he looks ok but then he goes and does something stupid and on a regular basis. He has had long enough to prove he's a top defender and failed. For my mind getting someone better than him should be a priority after getting a striker and a left back

well.... thier stats don't lie in that they are juct passing it to each toher for half the game!

I honeslty have to say that we need to sort out the keeper behind them and the midfield in front of them so that we are more defensively sound.

    1. reina keeps flogging goals, he's got to buck up.

    2. allen is the only guy chasing back and he cannot cover btoh full backs. we need either gerrard or sahin to be replaced by lucas or one of these tow to realise they have to defend. if two midfielders screen we'd cut down on the last ditch stuff where skertl and agger have to defend v 3 players on a break. allen is doing well but we are over comitting.... BUT funnily they don't seem to get in the damned box when they do go forward do they?

Mito is right our defensive record will get better when our players work harder, when we lose the ball we need to get back behind the play. The fullbacks have to work harder to get back as does the midfield.

It's quite simple. We're missing Lucas. A combination of Lucas and Allen will be excellent. Allen can get forward knowing that Lucas will hold. He's not back until the end of November though <yikes>

Yes that will solve part of the problem as Lucas will hold anyway and Allen will put the work in.

yes. its a combination of facotrs.

    1. numbers back... if you push two full backs on then the screening midfielders need to sit deeper. neither sahin nor gerrard want to and get ahead of the ball and are out of the game totally if we lose the ball. if you hold one full back back then you can release one midfielder.. we are doing neither. (if you play one real wide man like stelring then the opposite full back can push on and the lieks of suso can cut inside to add numbers in the box etc...

    2. tracking back..... johnson is as guilty as any at times but for me again gerrar dis particulalry bad at getting back when HE or someone else loses it. Wisdom is doing ok at getting back, jonhson though is now habitually wandering insde and is way out of position when we lose it. Allen is the one guy bursting a gut getting back rather than using his energy to sprint forward without the ball. he's sticking with play, being available and making the passes but is only sprinting when he's getting back... we need lucas doing likewise

    3. pressing. simply put compared to UTD we are in no way pressing well enough up the pitch when we lose it. sorry but we are not. we should be winning more ball back off guys futher up.

    i was hoping for

    reina
    Skertl Agger
    Wisdom allen sahin Johnson
    suso Gerrard Sterling
    Suarez

but in fact we are seeing suarez very deep, sahin way up the pitch, both full backs forward and then we wonder why agger and skertl are playing last ditch stuff?

I'd like to see suarez further up the pitch or move wide. I'd like to see henderson come in for sahin if he fails to adhere to policy and i'd like to see gerrard not being required to track back as much as he's not up to it.... but gerrard needs to press more then and close down on teams and win it back up the pitch.

I'm of the thinking that our front 3 should be Gerrard Suarez Sterling therefore removing the work Gerrard has to do and giving us another goal threat.
