I still, to this day, have no idea why footballers have agents. I know some of them are not the most academically blessed but you dont need someone else to sit with you in a meeting and say "we want 3 years on 40k a week with a 20% pay rise each year" and get paid handsomely for it by both you and the buying club.

If a player wants an agent to represent him then he should pay the ****, not the club.

You should have a read of 'The Secret Footballer's' first book, he does an entire chapter on agents, and there's even an agent who does some anonymous QnA too. A lot of very good points are raised about how agents help players and are very good for players and whilst the chapter openly admits some agents are utter turds, it does shine a light on some of the good things they do for their clients and the fact that there are a lot of good agents and that we only ever see the bad stuff about agents in the press.

Agents represent players. Players should pay agents for their services, not clubs. Whether they provide a good or bad service is irrelevant. What matters is that they take millions of pounds out of a club's coffers for a service that players should be paying for, in full.

Our spending was 5th in the Championship, though obviously we were in the Premier League for much of the time, Cardiff were top with £2.8m.

Agree with the sentiment but if players were to pay their agents then the agent would simply negotiate his fee into the players deal. The club pays either way.

Exactly. Its all factored into the overall deal.

Players need agents, clubs would quite happily screw over naive players if they had the opportunity to in which case its their own fault they have to pay agents fee's.

If all clubs did then the price might just come down a bit but they'd pay all the same, just a bit less. The consumer always pays one way or the other.

I think it was Gary Neville who in the latter part of his career didn't have an agent. Not sure if he was represented in the early part though or who else doesn't have one

Scary to think almost all of that amount will have been to Dame N'Doyes agent.

Roy Keane went through his career using only a solicitor/lawyer to negotiate for him.

That actually reads quite well for us. We spent very little despite our spending spree in the PL.

...... and further reason why Agents should be banned full stop. Are modern day footballers that thick or just so lazy that they don't know there own worth.

    Pathetic.
