but its the same result ,we let in more goals than we can score.we are better all round than we have been for a few seasons,i think we have one of the better managers [if not the best] in this division,he has bought in the best he was allowed to buy on hisvery poor budget . the fact is ME the owner will not give what is required to buy a top team to challenge for the prem.i feel sorry for MM he is doing his job ,while M>E>just keeps on saying he want to take the club onwards and upwards .well mr. EVANS this will never happen if you dont lay out for the right players to do the job ,as things are the club will once again be mid table .

A very negative post, we've lost by one goal to two of the relegated teams (and smashed the wallies in between), let's see where we are after six or seven games, it's not looking too bad as far as I'm concerned<ok>

Getting a bit fed up with hearing we are playing well and still getting beaten. MM has done a terrific job for us, but you have to ask is he being too negative, and giving too much respect to the opposition, could it be his midfield is not varied enough, and still lack pace, the forward line still do not seem capable to score on a regular basis, and so far they haven't scored a solitary goal

Agree with welly on this. We knew we had/have a tough first month. We lost by a solitary goal yesterday although disappointing not many teams are gonna go there and come away with much. Same as Reading. We have a better squad than we've had for a few years and I think we all know we're missing one or two standout players and yes if mr Evans wants us to push on he needs to dig a little deeper but also balancing the books and making us stable financially. As welly said lets give it 6 or 7 games and see how things are panning out.

I'm with welly and mad ads.
Would like to see some more of Anderson and Wordsworth to see if either of them have the creativity we need going forward. I don't think Edwards is effective enough on the wing and maybe it's time for him to have a spell on the bench to see if somebody else can do better.
There's still a couple of weeks left in the window and you never know if Mick has an ace up his sleeve.

We’re in an arseingly awkward spot at the moment.

ME blew many millions during the Magilton/Keane era expecting quick promotion and blew more money still subsidising the calamitous PJ reign, paying off various deadbeat players in the process. The money clearly didn’t come out of some private personal fortune, so we are millions in debt to ME group companies

Unfortunately, commercial law and the small fact that ME group companies have their own owners (I.E., shareholders) rather scuppers the notion of them giving us free money.

So, our finances are horribly strained but we can only be relieved that we have a good manager that doesn’t (apparently) mind that he has to operate on washers. We are effectively where we were when George Burley left, only without the threat of imminent administration.

Unless Mick can work a miracle, or ME hatches a scheme to give a PROPER manager proper funds (c/f Magilton, Keane and Jewell) without getting us in even more horrific debt, we’re stuck in permanent Championship mediocrity.

Just a bit harsh! I think most people were *hoping* we would get a draw playing away against 2 of the relegated teams - and we were unlucky not to. 3 games in and
you've already thrown in the towel, I hope none of our players have an attitude like that!!

So far we have been playing tough opposition so Mick has been putting out a hard to beat team. I think Hyam has been poor and I can see Mick dropping him next game. Hopefully whoever gets his place should be able to add a bit more creativity to the side.

I agree with most on this thread, things aren't looking to bad at all! When we saw the first three fixtures I think 3 points is what most of us would have expected and three points would be what pretty much every other team in the division would have expected had they had the same fixtures!

However what's pleasing to me is while we have lost two games out if three, we still have a positive goal difference! This means that the teams who have beaten us have had to work hard to do so, unlike some of our looses in recent seasons....

On another note, what's happened to JWM?

I think Johnies on his hols for a few weeks.Having listened to the game we were unlucky not to get a draw(a bit like the Reading game)and we will play worse this season and win.Chin up lads at least Roy(or PJ's) not still in charge!

seriously cant believe this post has come up already. We have played and COMPETED against two of the strongest teams in the division with players who we couldnt dream of being able to afford to buy currently. 3 of QPR's players are likely to have the same wages as our entire 1st team squad but we gave them a good game. Its a massive improvement.
12 months ago we would have got slaughtered by both (and by lesser teams as well)
Goalscoring is a potential issue for me as well but I, for one, am still feeling positive.

Far too early to be downbeat we have many positives to take from this season so far but yes think given the noises from some people at the start of the season perhaps it's brought some realism to proceedings in terms of our squad and setup, positives;

We have a squad of 22 players with only 1 loan
we pretty much have at least 2 players who can play in each position
looking at our 3 fixtures so far I'd say 3 points is what could probably have been expected
We have continued to look solid at the back and organised and hard to beat, we will always be competitive
we have potentially 2 of the best young full backs in the country
we have one of the most successful managers in this league who has always done well on a budget and with average players

negatives;

we lack creativity
we lack a real goal threat
we lack players to change it up and have too many similar type players
need a bit of dynamism in terms of formation changes and player positions
think some of our subs this season have been either the wrong ones or too late (small criticism that could be wagered at most ITFC managers)
think sometimes we could be more positive in our play

But given where we've been the past 5 years I'd say the positive outway the negatives and my outlook on this season hasn't changed after the 3 games, although I did think it would be the best time to play QPR and Reading (wasn't expecting them to have as good a start as they have)

well put and my point has at last been taken up ,the fact we will not move out of this league is because not enough funds have been given over to the manager, never mind what ME has done , he has not done enough to get the club into the prem. so there ,time for tea now bye .

With the way we've been losing money the first order of business is to get our finances in order. I'm sure none of us want to see the debt to ME grow any bigger and that explains the lack of available funds. I think we are going about things the right way and it will take some time to get all of the pieces of the puzzle in place. In the meantime we will be a hard to beat, if a tad uninspiring, team who will finish comfortably in the top half.

Yes,but we're getting more difficult to beat.Mick and Terry are addressing our defensive frailties but I would still like us to give away fewer goals at the tail end of halves as happened in both our defeats this season.I would be very surprised if anyone in our Division gives us a real tonking.

Our defence has improved no end thank god but we cant rely on "being difficult to beat " if we are not scoring ourselves, it really amounts to the same thing if we lose 1-0 is it really an improvement to say we would have lost by much more last season? The strikers have to do there job to make sure that we dont keep losing by one goal because a one goal defeat or a three goal defeat still amounts to no points.
