quote BBC: GT..."It's our worst performance of the season but you have to hand it to Walsall. They are a very sharp side and they don't give it away like we did. "As a side we have to think why we were so poor. We have to get over this to begin to move forward and work out why we had so many poor performances." ....easy that one GT, no investment in team building, no youth policy, And this incessant almost obsessive love affair you have by getting other teams casts off players to put a Shrewsbury Town shirt on!!
The 'fan of the day' on Radio Slop stated some good points about the fact that our team see so slow to move the ball forward and seem cautious whereas other teams move with so much more pace up the field.
Gayle and hoofball....terrible. No partnership with Parry. Rodgers either had too little time on pitch or shouldn't have gone on at all! Why does he jump? He'd be better waiting for ball to drop. Between minutes 10-70 Jacobson competed well. Morgan still expects too much protection from bad refs. Said to guy next to me, after 2 mins, "This ref will give a penalty"; think they knew that. Perhaps we should have tried for one! Richards ran a lot but was at his most ineffective. Nearly whole team could not deal with their short passes AND were dispossessed too easily in midfield. Sitting on halfway line the game was probably quite different ..... Sat with home fans as that was only way to get ticket. Don't know how many loanees they have but they seem to have turned cast offs from good teams into a unit....We saw that when we thrashed them at home!
Really looking forward to making good comments on an away match.....Bugger, I missed Coventry! Just like Dave Gorman might say .....my miles per goal or win is quite high! Come on Town give us some fight and hwl
I am not sure our performance was as bad as has been made out but I was impressed by Walsall and we never really got to grips with their midfield diamond formation and Brandy was several classes above anything else on the pitch. The first half was fairly even but we made our customary slow start to the second and lost the game in eight minutes. We huffed and puffed after that but were much more predictable than their forwards who had pace, dribbling skills and movement. We badly need Taylor back for his pace and Grandison will also lift the team as he is a better defender than Gayle ( who did put in a great cross for the goal). I thought Richards tried hard to rally the troops despite incessant barracking from one loud mouthed idiot behind me - I am ashamed at the antics of some of these so-called supporters. We are still firmly in a relegation fight but if we all stick together and support the lads surely we can scrape together enough points to survive this season. If we do then I think we should seriously consider adopting the Walsall model of putting together a young side (mostly of Premier League cast -offs) and sticking with them through thick and thin. This is surely a better long-term solution than our present patchwork side with multiple sets of loanees coming and going. Finally, The highlight of the day for me was the great reception given to Mark Taylor - a real class act on the field and the scorer of our first goal at Wembley.
Kasule, I know Taylor was not everyone's cup of tea but sometimes if you have enough skill you do not need to do alot of running.
I am not saying he was not skillful. I was alluding to his peculiar running style. I do remember he got a lot of stick when he first arrived at STFC-I was not one dishing it out.
Ive got to disagree, Walsall arnt a particular good team, we made them look even better that what they really are, luckily in our home game Weale saved the day, pity his performance couldnât help us this time!!
we were 8 points clear of relegation , we are now 4 points clear, but we have lost to two of the strongest teams. what worries me is oldham 2 games in hand and colch, 1 game in hand also pompey and h/pool who have ceased the dying swan act. help!
Tinned hats, I beg to differ - I am not sure if you went to the game but recent stats point to Walsall as the current form team of the division and homing in on the play-offs. I thought they looked a really good side and crucially they have a striker in Will Grigg who is on red-hot form at the moment. Kasule - sorry I misinterpreted your comment about Taylor but I did not remember he had a peculiar running style.
