....I am really looking forward to Everton and WBA playing Champions league football next year. I also think it is a bit unfair not to give Chelsea the PL trophy right now. If people think after 5 games that Saints are going to be relegated then by the same logic the above must be true. I bet the WBA and Everton fans are chuffed at the news and have already started celebrating and thinking of strengthening their squads while Abramovich has paid out all the bonuses for Chelsea winning the League. I don't know why anyone would bother to play the remaining 33 PL games. After all we all know for certain what is going to happen don't we?
We could win the league and on the other side we could go down with 3 points. I don't think either will happen to be honest. I think we will finish 13th.
I was asked where I thought we would finish tonight.... I have predicted mid table safety somewhere between 9th-13th. I think with what we have now and maybe what we can add in January we could actually be the success team of the season! Adkins seems to have learnt quick already this season!
I think if we strengthen our defence in january we will be ok, we have strength in depth in attack even if we lose lambert and lallana, but defensively if too many people get injured we are in deep trouble. Also looking forward to bringing some youth players into the first team, Ward-Prowse is a great start but I think there is more to come, don't think they are all back-up for cup games or desperate times only. If we sell any of our key players in jan I hope we only let them go for big money and invest it wisely.
You were sounding like the voice of doom last week; what's happened? Surely one win hasn't changed the defending ability of our players.
Bit harsh FLT I think he was only really gloomy about KD not the whole team. I seem to remember I said something similar to him last week and had to retract slightly!
I think we could all do with a few words from that bestseller "The wisdom of Nigel Adkins". Not too low after defeats, not too high after wins.
I think I over stepped it with regards to kelv and maybe our defending but look at what changed this weekend...coincidentally what I said was needed and we won. For me though it was the manner in which we won, we were confident and bright and played some lovely football. If you look over my posts I actually make several references to us having a top 10 forward line and modfield but we hasn't seen how yoshida would pan out yet (he looked great by the way) and made Fonte look the best I had seen him in 18 months! To summarise I certainly wasn't down about the prospects of the team, more concerned about how long it would take Adkins and his staff to make the changes that were required. They have done that now and as long as that remains the same we can't ask anymore! Lets get as many points as we can on the board and in January a couple more defensive acquisitions and we never know ;-)
I think we are going to have to get used to violent mood swings this season. A telling point is that we rose a league place yesterday on goals scored...a free scoring team will usually get enough points but we may still lose quite a few games.
