There are now only seven clubs who can mathematically catch us. Norwich - 9 points and 19 goals adrift (21 possible points) Cardiff - 13 points and 23 goals adrift (21 possible points) Swansea - 13 points and 24 goals adrift (21 possible points) Leeds - 15 points and 28 goals adrift (21 possible points) Reading - 19 points and 20 goals adrift (24 possible points) Forest - 19 points and 30 goals adrift (21 possible points) Burnley - 22 points and 34 goals adrift (24 possible points) In reverse order, these are my thoughts on each club: Burnley - will need to win every game and us lose every game. Ain't gonna happen. Forest - pretty much the same. And in their current form, that's never going to happen. Reading - picking up, but despite the impetus, a pretty good run in, and the extra game, thery are too far adrift. And one defeat will mean they are in the same position as Forest. Leeds - Seven games left. They need to win five games more than we win. Come May 7, it'll all be over. Cos we are not losing five games, no matter what they do. Swansea - Their next game is agaisnt Norwich, and is now a must win game for them. Otherwise, they could find themselves 16 points from us with only 18 left to play for come Saturday evening. Cardiff - They also have a must-win game, against ourselves. The way results are going, this could well be a meaningless game (for us at least) and so they really must pick up maximum points against Doncaster, Sheff Utd and Pompey. If they fail to win all of these, it could possibly be meaningless for them as well..... Norwich - Have to play Swansea, Forest, and there's the little matter of a local derby game at Ipswich in there as well. And they will need to better our results by three wins and a draw, with us losing at least four of the last seven. But if you apply the recent form of those clubs over the last 6 & 8 games, only Norwich could catch us.
Simple fact is, when I look at how bad we would have to be, and how good the others would ALL have to be, I can't even see one of them making up the ground, let alone two or (God forbid) five... I reckon we will see Vanessa Feltz covering James Brown tracks soon enough.....
