From January 19th -February 10th we have the joy of the Africa's cup that means we will lose Adel (if he is still with us) Diakite, Taiwo & Traore from the first week of Jan until at least first week of Feb depending that no one picks up an injury. This will have a huge impact on our squad as it stands as these players are big chunk of our first team squad, but does it mean we need to plan to cover these positions now? Do we have to overlook any African potential talented new signings? A good run in the FA Cup would mean a couple of league matches are postponed could be a good thing? What will be the effect in bringing in loan players for cover? Could be the reason we are holding onto Dyer & Buzz? Why on earth do we need an African cup every year? Anyway I know lots will happen before then and it does seem a long way off but this competition needs to be taken into consideration as it will have an impact on our season and possibly success. I personally would have this moved to every two years or be played in the summer like the Euro's. Anyone thought of this and have ideas?
I think you've made a very good point Flanners. I can't stand the ACON. In fact as I write, I've just seen on twitter that Odemwingie wants a move from West Brom with QPR and Arsenal favourites. So he'd be no good, isn't he a Russian that plays for Nigeria?
The fabled African Cup of Nothing. This tournament has seriously devalued itself with frequency, games played in empty stadiums, and increasingly negative football. Which is a shame as Africa needs a strong tournament and it used to be exciting. But everyone is aware of when it happens, so it's up to Sparky to have a plan.
It is held every two years, but being moved to be played in odd-numbered years from 2013 onwards, so it does not clash with World Cup
Thanks for that I thought it was but then moved every year didn't know about World Cup clash. Still a pain in the Bum!!
It's not. It's just that they wanted to switch to odd numbered years, and decided to go two-in-a-row rather than have a three year gap.
