    AFC Wimbledon have been granted permission for a new 11,000-seater in Plough Lane, close to their spiritual home:

    AFC Wimbledon has been given permission to build a new stadium close to its spiritual home in Plough Lane.

    The League Two club applied to build an 11,000-seater stadium - that could be expanded to hold 20,000 - on the site of Wimbledon greyhound stadium.

    Merton Borough Council had recommended it for approval and councillors unanimously approved the plans.

    The original Wimbledon club left Plough Lane in 1991 because of legislation requiring all-seater stadiums.

    About time Stamford Bridge stopped being my local ground.

    The dogs is fun (though I'm coming round to the cruelty argument), but that stadium is a mess - it's ready to be torn down anyway.

    The best days for me at that stadium was in the 70's watching speedway. Larry Ross - Roger Johns and the late great Tommy Jansson just 3 names from the Wimbledon Dons speedway club.

    Am sure it has also held horse riding and stock cars as well as the dogs. For sure it is time for pulling it down and re-new the place.

    That stadium looked shabby 20 years ago nevermind now. R.I.P. Plough Lane greyhound / speedway stadium.

    First time around I found them irritating but now after all they have been through I could just start to see them as a lot of people's second team with that development - unbelievable resilience and just shows what a "local force" football supporters can be and what it is really all about - take note, Mr. Football Business and those who dare to strip away identities...
