Well what a start.....all the games I've seen before at the Wombles had been draws.....this certainly wouldn't be once Argyle scored.

The first 15 minutes was all Wimbledon in our half.....throw-ins and plenty of corners but they never quite got a clear shot on goal.....the game calmed down after that and Argyle started to threaten with some good passing with Jervis being always available out wide on the right.....McCormick quite often took goal kicks long and down the right touchline......and Jervis managed quite often to get his head to it and headed it towards their penalty area....he is tall and good in the air.

Wylde's goal was a cracker on 40 mins (I told them 37mins...but never mind).....he broke into the penalty area from the left and met a cross on the volley and smashed it into the roof of the net......brilliant skill.....not your regular Div 2 hoof into the top of the stand for sure, more goals coming from this chap i'm sure.

The game was just starting to settle down in the second half when a pass from Reid found Carey outside the right corner of the penalty area and he slammed it into th left side of the goal......from where I was sitting it looked like it got the faintest touch from a Wimbledon player changing the direction very slightly.....I think the goalkeeper was already beaten anyway.....this left Wimbledon players and supporters very flat and quiet.........for the next ten minutes Argyle real took them to town and Wimbledon where hanging on by their teeth....with a few near rugby tackles thrown in as well....the Ref only booked one of their players....could have booked quite a few to be honest.

Argyle where in control....Wimbledon did try to raise their tempo but could only blast the ball over McCormicks goal often.......our defence worked well and although Wimbledon played three strikers....Akinfenwa, Elliot and Taylor they where never given a chance to score....two of them where subbed in the end.....so we didn't see the "beast's" new goal celebration.

I know it's silly to make predictions after one game...but I feel that when this team jells they could be a serious promotion threat......Wimbledon were unbeaten in pre-season playing some big teams and might do quite well with their new strikers plus the "Beast", so Argyles result might be better than we think.

Stand out players where Boateng, Carey and also McHugh......it was noticeable that Jervis got shouted at quite a bit for not picking up a player when he should of been defending.....but other than that Adams must be pleased in what he saw.

thanks Plym- listened to Sparsky - sounded pretty good once we had seen off the early pressure. Nothing better than getting 3 points on the board first game of the season.

Have to say that today's result didn't surprise me one bit as I did say I expected it previously. I think Reid is going to have to go some to have a monopoly on goal getting this season and it is very pleasing indeed to find others on the score sheet so soon. A clean sheet as well so great start up front and great start at the back.

I am looking forward to next Saturday already although with Pompey's result today it won't be a walk over by a long shot. Difference between us is we were away today and playing a better side than Dagenham. I think it could be a bigger crowd than the Exeter one this season. Not televised so that should improve the numbers. Well chuffed today.

I wondered if it was worth getting up early for the first 20 min. of the game...then Argyle must of sensed that I needed waking up when they scored..
after that I was wide awake...
A good start to the season...

You must be close to hibernating BC. If you lived somewhere normal like the rest of us then you could get up at a more godly hour. Well I say normal but Plym lives in Kent so lets say most of us. There is that other bloke who jumps between Arab land and Malta and someone who hasn't visited for a while once known as mexijan but moved to China and got confused over his user name. Actually only a few of us live in normal places if you look at it. What point was I trying to make again? Have I had my tea yet?

Delighted mainly with the "nil'. I was afraid we'd be pretty to watch but concede too many. We seem to have absorbed early pressure and won it quite well in the end. Tougher tests to come I expect butt a great start from the Scottish Mourinho

Hi Greens, great start to the season for yourselves. I just had a brief glance at the AFC Wimbledon line up for yesterday and as thought contained a number of ex Gills players, all that have played at a higher level and all three that i would rate highly. Andy Barcham without doubt is one of my personal favourite on the left wing and there is no forgetting the beast, where it takes generally three opposition players to hold him down. Last but not least Barry Fuller, if you've still got your legs attached after he was on the pitch, then consider yourself lucky. So yes, great result for your boys.

Now going into Tuesday night. Not a good time to be meeting us tbh, Saturday most Gills supporters will tell you, our team put in the best performance most of us had ever seen. No seriously, I've been following them for over 40 years and we were awesome, we did not only just defeat promotion favourite Sheffield United we obliterated them for the entire 90 minutes.

However, after ever great high, comes a great fall, and the bigger they are the further they have to fall. So good luck and what will be will be. Not sure if JE will play a different team, but players to watch out for is our new number six Jackson, our ever present Dack (number 23), you will recognise him, a young long haired hippy lol, and I would say from Saturday Dickenson, number 24. Last not least our maestro in defence Egan, before then trying to get pass the Rainham End chant of England's so called number one, and the safest pair of hands between the sticks at this level Nelson. Now i've probably doomed us...

    :)

Still the same. Although smaller followings in poor weather conditions are now moved to the GRS. Even the home fans have been complaining about it for years!

To be fair to our Chairman the fixture listing this season is diabolical, lot's of Northern games on a Tuesday night, not only has that affected the team but seriously restricted fixtures I may otherwise have attended. I was only discussing this with supporters yesterday before the game, yes I know it's a geography problem every week for you guys, but financially its just not viable for many, although i accept it's the nature of the beast.

To be fair I don't go much on Tuesday night games at home. I'm definately a Saturday person for footy. I've never got into the habit of away games.
