Right its my first time doing the GNR, I am defo coming to the game but I could do with some advise. The Mrs is coming with me and she will have a car, we are staying on the quayside in Newcastle. I am in the first wave of runners so expect to finish the race by about 12.45. Do I: get the Mrs to drive to Southsheilds, park up and meet me there, then try and drive south down the coast road to the game. Try and get on the metro which does not go direct to Sunderland and meet the Mrs at the ground. Walk the couple of miles to Whitburn and meet her their, drive to the ground. Get the Metro back to Newcastle meet her there and then get the metro back to Sunderland. Or man up and walk the 6 miles for Southsheilds to the game and meet her there. Or any other options?
Don't take the car mate what ever you do...Use the Metro and change at Heworth and you can't go far wrong...
I'd probs, in your situation, drive to Stadium Of Light metro and park there, get the Metro to Newcastle for the GNR, then Metro to Stadium for game, and car is handily placed for the end of the game, not to be underestimated, as you will be stiffening up a treat by 5!
LIV - Best of luck first off Taking a car into Shields is a definite no no!! Depends on what your Mrs will be doing as you are having fun passing through the badlands?? Your idea about Whitburn is the best imo. Park the motor at the SoL metro and you can (both?) take the metro to Newcastle. She could the choose to go through to SS, or evn to G'head or Heworth to see you pass/finish? It's prob 2 1/2 miles from the end of the GNR on the Leas to Whitburn - you can use the distance to warm down nicely - she can pick you up there and it's a doddle to the SoL from there. Hope this helps, if you need anything else just shout.
The bbcsport site said that sundays game is a 3pm kick off is that wrong?. Anyhow it is SAFC's right to play that match on sat 3pm because it is Stoke and Tony pullis who has to worry about their europa cup matches not us, they now have the advantage and not only that the game has to kick off early for them to play Spurs on tues!.This is wrong, it should be the matches in the europa cup should be changed not the premier league. What would happen if we had players out sick, could we get our game put back? i do not think so, by playing on sat we would not be doing anything wrong, but if we switched the game then that is wrong.
I think this is what were going to do. My worry about the Metro is that it says in the info pack that there will be long queues for it at the finish. I plan to be finished by 1pm so that gives us 2 hours to get to the game. I have a parking space on a mates drive reserved for me 2 mins walk from the SOL so as long as I can get to the stadium by 2.58 I will make it to the match in time.
Always is, but if you are thinking about Whitburn then no need surely - or is Mrs LIV going down to the finish??
I think she is going to park in Whitburn and walk up to the finish so there will be no need for the Metro. I offered my borther the chance to come to the game and wear my spare SAFC shirt but he has declined and will be getting the Metro back to Newcastle.
LIV - If you Mrs is parking in Whitburn then fine, you're sorted. If your brother is going to go to N'cle after the race there'll be a wait of anything up to 90 mins I reckon? An alternative might be for him to go to SS centre and get the ferry to N Shields and then get the Metro from there. Even though it seems strange taking a long way like that it's probably a lot quicker.
Thanks for the info Rockerlad, last question, is the SAFC box office open sat to buy tickets to the game Sunday?
