Guys I've had a bit of bad news regarding someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. Maybe I should google it but I don't know enough about. Is this something that is curable depending on type or is it terminal? Maybe naive of me posting this here but maybe you guys have some advice Thanks in advance
Bad news Secret. Very much depends on type of cancer, how early the diagnosis is and how willing the victim is to take the treatment. And also age/ general fitness.
Thanks sb, it's my mum and I lost my uncle to this, she doesn't want treatment but I feel I may have to make her
secret. don't freak out just yet. many types of cancer are curable if caught early enough. my dad had it 3 times over 15 years. find out what kind it is first. don't give up the fight before its begun.
Really sorry to hear that. I'm not a clinician, but I work in healthcare. The patient groups and information available for cancer in the UK are amongst the best in the world. It is worth Googling, but check the source of any info you find. Cancer Research UK likely to be good. And Inky is 100% right. We freak because its 'cancer', but we are making great progress in its treatment.
Sorry to hear that CB. Hope she goes for it and beats it. Either way, make sure you spend all the time together you can, take pictures and make memories. Incidentally, I also learned today that someone I know has discovered the dreaded 'C'. She's a young mum, can't imagine how they must feel. As mentioned above, the type and degree of advancement will have a bearing on the outcome, but so will a positive attitude. Good luck buddy.
sorry to barge in again but stop being so negative! cancer is curable. the treatment available today is the best it's even been. good luck to your mum.
All my very best wishes CB. Medical science is much improved so try to keep positive at this stage and hopefully it'll be positive news in terms of type and how early it's caught.
Hi CB I am also in healthcare and do a bit on cancer. No1 Positive attitude...No2 positive attitude....guess what 3 is Cancer is increasingly treatable and increasingly curable. As SB said...many things depend on what it is, where it is, treatment, how early it is caught...but most things say...... the more positive the attitude the more positive the outcome. You need to get your mum and you to see a consultant, to hear the prognosis....and listen...It is then your/her decision on treatment....but if he says it is 95% curable with treatment you know your/her response....if he says it is 5% curable with treatment ...then you can think about things Information...full information is the key...and a positive attitude If you wanna PM me.....please do secret. Thinking of you Beth
Secret, I went through this with my Mom. My only thing to say is be careful when you google internet articles and ensure they are from reliable sources. My Mom was given a year and she lasted 12 years without much pain. Keep the faith man!!
Sorry to hear this. I'm also non clinical NHS. Early diagnosis, fast response (insist, don't be shy), positive attitude. Best wishes to you and your Mum
