Guess who's booked a long promised, surprise trip to Paris for the family this weekend!

Is it safe and/or worth it, what with all the goings on? £1800 on travel and hotel.

    Thanks in advance.

Cheers mate, was just reading that. They aren't saying don't go, but instead avoid demo's. Not sure it's as simple as that, I assume they are mobile and anywhere is a potential hot spot. I'd never forgive myself if I took my wife and kids into a ****ing war zone.

Agree with all that Woody as I've just read this ... https://www.thelocal.fr/20181206/elyse-palace-fears-major-violence-at-saturdays-protests

It's looking like it may happen anywhere. I was going to suggest avoiding the Champs Elysee, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc Du Triomphe but that may sadly no longer be the case.

Heard in the news this morning that the main attractions are closed this weekend, the Eiffel tower etc. The PSG v Montpellier match have also been postponed.
Time to dig up the hidden gems of Paris, Dave should be able to help I would think. I'm sure you will have a fantastic time anyway, I see it more as an oppurtunity than an obstacle. Have a safe and lovely trip Woody.

It’s very easy to steer clear of any trouble

Mass hysteria in the UK re what is going on in France ... even without the news there are places I would avoid anytime of the year

    Have a great time

You are at more risk in the UK

    Cheers all. Much obliged.

Spoke to the hotel reception who said the trouble last weekend was hugely exaggerated in the media. We'll go and have fun.

    Thanks.

Can’t imagine that the protesters will have enough energy to get up the hill to Sacre Coeur Woody. It’s a great area for just mooching around. And top views over the city.

Always worth avoiding the main tourist spots, eh ?
I mean who wants to see the Eiffel Tower and Mona Lisa when in Paris :)

Best not to wear your favourite yellow waistcoat while you're over there, Woody! I'm sure you'll be fine if you avoid the trouble spots. Hope you all have a great weekend.

That’s your right, but me personally having driven, delivered goods and collected goods all over France but mostly in Paris I find his analogy that your safer there than in the U.K. absolute bollox, and having spoke to several drivers who were in Paris last week the riots were definitely NOT hyped by the media.
