Barking Mad decision to sack Nigel Adkins, but it set me wondering if the same thing could happen to Nigel Pearson next year in similar Circumstances?
Chairmen just seem to be getting that bit more evil recently, don't they? Huge number of unfair sackings, Southampton have just had a pretty emphatic game at Chelsea too. Plus they've appointed a guy who I don't think has ever properly manged before!
I've just posted my reaction in a separate thread- if a mod can combine these as we don't' need two separate discussions about this.
It's money, the root of all evil. They lose so much dropping out of the Prem, they'll try anything to stay up. Mad thing is sometimes it works too! Adkins will get another job no problem.
I can see the same happening to Pearson. Which does show how the game has changed. BUT would you be unhappy if Wood was replaced by Van Persie if you made it to the top division? I know that's an extreme analogy but most fans haven't complained in the past about upgrading the players.
Already been there Yakubu, Curtis Davies, Matt Mills, Gelson Fernandes, Jermaine Beckford...... It doesn't end well
Are you saying getting rid of Pearson for a established Premier League manager is akin to upgrading the squad? I think Pearson has the potential to be better than many of the current Premier League managers. He has still really to put a foot wrong yet in his managerial career. If faced with relegation, maybe, depending on who we can realistically get. But if relegation looks a certainty (ie, the majority of the squad doesn't look good enough), there's few as likely to take us straight back up again the season after.
No, I really rate Pearson and always have. But my opinion doesn't matter. If the owners think that they can get a "van Persie" (proven performer) they might get rid of a "Wood" (unproven but could become amazing). I'd hope your owners would have more of a WBA approach rather than a Southampton one. Although maybe, in 5 Years time, Southampton will be Champions.......
Merson said it best last night, "i hope Southampton get relegated" I personally think that Pearson has done well to stay under the radar of bigger clubs, although once your in the prem your made, look at Lambert (lol) and ive no doubt Adkins will get the next bottom half prem job going. Think certain managers like Hughes will haveto drop a league.
Lesta Gangsta: sorry, yes I was comparing upgrading the manager to upgrading the squad (in the chairman's eyes)
