"Nigel Adkins could today become the quickest post-war Saints manager to reach the 100 point landmark. The Saints boss has amassed 97 league points in just 44 games in charge of the club as he has helped guide them from the lower reaches of League One to the top of the Championship. He could notch up a century as Saints take on Millwall at St Maryâs today, chasing four wins from their opening four league games for the first time in their post-war career. That gives him an impressive points per game average of 2.2 points and also leaves him on the verge of a major personal milestone, on top of the records that the team have been setting. Of other Saintsâ post-war managers, the one with the previous best record after 45 games was Adkinsâ predecessor, Alan Pardew. Despite taking over with the club and the squad in a state of disarray, Pardew quickly steadied the ship and brought the majority of the players who are still doing so well for Saints at the moment. Pardew had accumulated 80 points after 45 games. Of course, it does need to be taken into account that both Pardew and Adkins did pick up points in the third tier of English football with a side that was expensively assembled, relative to the division, whilst many Saints managers worked at the top level and with meagre budget." Adkins is a brilliant manager and an amazing man, thanks adkins for bring happiest to this brilliant club.
Thanks for doing this as I have been unable to open Echo site..always breaking down. If Adkins stays with us he will continue to break records as he is a great manager and will be given the support he needs from the Chairman. Wouldn't be drawn on possible signings (of course) on Player but said it's all going on behind the scenes, so it sounds like they are still pursuing player(s). On Sky, they said QPR still after Puncheon. Off to match shortly, hoping we get those four consecutive league wins and NA gets his record, though I'm sure he will say it's all about the team. Together as one.
A nice statistic, and more proof that the last 24 months at this club have been fantastic. We may have been in the lower leagues but winning's winning - you still need to get the results on the board. My congratulations to Nige on his achievement - a superb manager, up there with the best we've ever had.
Also interesting stat about Pardew. Knew he'd done well but not that well. Gave us the foundation for our success..but he would never have stayed on. Never bought into 'the dream'.
Another accolade for Adkins who has been fantastic from the moment he 'came into the building.' We're all on the bus.
