The club have announced Ade has been released from his contract after a mutual agreement following talks. http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/emmanuel-adebayor-130915/
Part of me hoped that we'd somehow get him back on board this season what without any like for like cover for Kane. It's so sad because on his day, Adebayor is unplayable. Something is clearly not right in his head and I hope he can pull it back together and finish a pretty bizarre career strongly. A bit of nostalgia here too: he was the last remaining player at the club who featured in our Blaze of Glory maiden CL voyage. (Rose and Walker didn't feature in Europe). It truly is the absolute end of that era.
It was inevitable, too much bad press for the club and him. Wonder what the club gave him to go away.
Yeah be interesting to know how much of his contract they paid up? Can he join anyone now he's on a free then?
I think that you have to be a free agent before the ene of the transfer window to be able to join another club, so West Ham in January then.
That's something then. I'm guessing this situations suits both sides as he probably got what he wanted financially and Spurs won't have to see him back in the PL until January at the earliest.
Erm...yes that's what I meant. You see, vicariously in a peculiar way he was a 'part' of our CL campaign - more so than Rose or Walker who weren't even on the pitch. Right. Hooray for me pre-coffee
No doubt there will be a Levy clause that means Spurs do not pay him a penny more if he signs for a new club between now and the end of the season.
Is it significant that the club have written nothing other than we wish him well or are they going to produce something? Normally you would expect a summing up of his time at Spurs would you not!
The shootings on the bus during the ACON a few years back took their toll imo. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms of him to be made but in the past 2 years he has come across as being on the edge of a breakdown at times. That family stuff he tweeted about was a bleak insight to what was going on in his head imo. If he was simply a greedy unprincipled liar like campbell I'd have no sympathy for him or good memories of him in a spurs shirt but as it is I wish Ade well.
He became a virus to the team over past 12 months, I thought maybe there may have been a chance we'd get some use out of him seeing as we failed to bring in a striker but Poch & Co clearly felt we were still better off without him. It's hard to say I'll wish him the best as I felt he didn't give this club 100% all the time but I will say thank you for the 11/12 season and certain moments afterwards too.
The club do say at the bottom of the web article, that they wish him well for the future, but it is surely significant that the statement is very much an unelaborated footnote.
