    Hi

How do people feel about the wingers that we have. We have:

    De ridder
    Lallana
    Guly (not his best position)
    Holmes
    Fox
    Dickson
    Forte

Two of these are not naturally attacking winger I feel (guly, fox).
Do what do you think? Do we need another winger or do we keep what we have.

Dont forget puncheon but I can't see he has a way back to the first team.

Forte to add to your winger-come-striker section

Agree that we could do with a striker and a centre back but if i had a choice i'd probably try and get a winger in too because the thought of lallana getting injured and what we'd have to cover him doesn't feel me with confidence, although we could probably get one on loan if needed.

If you're counting Fox as a (potential) winger, then Dickson falls into that category if he stays.
As proper first position wingers we only have Lallana, De Ridder and Holmes, but I think we have enough multi position players to cover if (touch wood) two out of those three were injured, with Guly and Forte as good examples. It also helps that Lallana, De Ridder and Holmes could all play on either flank.
On the Guly on the wing debate - I don't like him there, I don't think he is a winger, he seems more of a right sided midfield player as he never seems to go down the flank, but he covers well defensively and chips in with his fair share of goals so he deserves his place at the moment.

I don't think we need a winger. We have 5 already (I think Fox will play left back and Forte on the wings) and remember Chaplow can play there if needed and we still have Dickson. Also, I prefer Guly on the wing than up front personally...

Don't think Guly is a winger either but has been putting performances in defensively, and obviously scored the winner against Millwall, so deserves his place in the team. I don't think we need any additions on the wings.

as much as i totally agree with you, i get this feeling that nige will only bring one more recruit in before the end of the window. whenever he's spoken about additions to the squad recently he's always quoted "1,2,3 maybe 4" new players he plans to bring in to bolster the team.
here's to hoping he pushes the boat out a little though!

We have enough out wide - the strength of a team is its "spine". CB, CM & CF - keep these departments strong and we will do fine!

If you're including Fox and Dickson then there's no reason not to have Butterfield and/or Richardson as well. I think wingers are the least of our concerns right now.

I agree. Lots of cover for the wings in my opinion. Would like to see Holmes play at some point, as although only Torquay, he played very well and looks to have real qulaity. Holmes on one wing and De Ridder on the other would be interesting at some point, although don't know where Lallana would fit in!

    don't forget Lallana;

    he plays on the left,
    he plays on the right......

    ... he covers two positions
    so we'll be alright!

I think Guly's fine on the wing. He looks like he's sulking a bit, but that's just him, he does drift out of games from time to time wherever he plays. But you never know when he's gonna turn on the magic, plus he gets back and tackles, which is part of the job.

As for cover for Lallana, forget it. He's not really replaceable, let's just hope he stays fit.
