I'm finding this additional forum feature very disruptive to the normal flow of our board and our thread heads. Personally I'd like to see it removed. After all it's not as though we couldn't interact with other boards before is it? This new feature means thread starters can choose to have their threads automatically appear on any or all club boards, hence the sudden appearance of threads on our board that have little or nothing to do with Rangers. The fact is though that this is the QPR board, there for the purpose of communicating with other Rs fans... without having to trawl the thread list to work out which is us and which is the rest of the world (whose interests and opinions if required could be accessed elsewhere on the forum). I'm also not satisfied with the site's method of consultation. A briefly run global (since removed) with an imbalanced introduction precluding the pros and cons of the feature. That set the tone for a 'yes' vote although no ballot was held. Those who bothered to express reservations made it clear that the additional forum feature did not work on BBC 606. Does anyone else find the additional forum threads intrusive on OUR board?
100% agree Brix. It may be alright for other teams who don't have so many posters to their sites, but for us it's just clutter.
There already is a Premier League Forum. I assumed that was for posts relevant to all Premier League teams.
People have abused the functionality today but I am confident it will be good when used correctly. I understand people don't like certain features, but please see it from my point of view - I have had this functionality requested dozens of times (about 50 times after 606 just closed), I went to the effort to find developers and paid them to do it for me. I'd like you all to give it a chance, let me refine the rules of when it can be used (I've already restricted the number of forums you can post to and will probably further restrict it) before deciding that you hate it.
Mick: I understand you were lobbied by some for this feature (50 or so is a small percentage of users on not606) but the fact that the majority, many if not most being ex-BBC 606, did not should speak for itself. Hate is an over-strong word but this feature is not going to be popular with our board, I can tell that by the responses already coming in at this (rush hour) time of day when most are not online. However, I do sympathise with the decision makers having made a bad call and with the efforts you've made to accommodate the few. The fact is I've made bad management decisions in my time too - and been left holding the baby. Question is what to rescue the situation? The only answer I can think of is to provide an 'on/off' switch similar to the one we have for swearing. If this were to become available I can assure you mine would remain on the 'off' position. Apart from the odd one or two who come on to our board with a modicum of respect, I simply don't care about views from fans of clubs other than QPR (and Watford because I really like the fans they have on this site). I don't want to go picking through their stuff looking for dedicated QPR threads.
I know. I read through the global. Personally I don't need the feature at all. Like I say, I only really care what Rs fans have to say.
The On/Off switch would require a development from the outsourced developer. I've restricted it so you can post to a maximum of three forums. If you can only choose three forums then you will have to actually put a bit of thought into which forums you pick, instead of spamming every board, which should mean that only threads which are relevant to QPR should be on your board. How many people who support other teams, who are residing on other boards, will have something relevant to say about QPR? I imagine quite few, so it would only be used for match day threads or transfer news etc - stuff that is relevant to QPR. So give it a day or so until the spam posts get buried and I doubt you would have any more than one 'multi-forum' thread (which is relevant to QPR) on your board first page at any one time - thereby invalidating most of the OP's worries. One advantage Not606 has over many of the other dedicated team forums out there is we allow fans to debate with fans from other teams. This is a strength I wish to build on.
I could do without non QPR posts. Personally, I have no interest in trawling through the happy postings from others who support well run, upwardly mobile clubs with ambition and unity... :/
QPR Board Members: Please continue giving your views on the not606 Additional Forums feature. Hopefully, as Mick says, the feature will become less intrusive than it was on the first day. We'll see. Mick: Thanks for your speedy attention to our concerns to date. As I say, we'll see how it goes...
I would prefer only QPR related discussions on our message board - if I want to "lurk" on other boards I know where to find them.
Onefeature (which may be there already) which would resolve this for me, is the ability for the moderator on our board to remove any posts that appear from the Additional Forums posters which are irrelevant / spam / wumming etc. That way, all we need to do is whinge at Northolt and Aerospacemango - we don't need to go dragging everyone in on it. is this there (or could it be put there?)
