Arsenal legend Tony Adams believes that former Gunners boss George Graham was a better coach and made more of his players than Arsene Wenger. Adams is the coach of FC Gabala, a top-flight club in the Azerbaijani league, and he isn't impressed with his former club's trophyless spell, believing Graham would have enjoyed more success. The former Gunners skipper who won two titles under Graham and the Double twice under Wenger believes it is down to the Scotsman's flare for coaching and his desire to get the very best out of individual's talents that made him stand out. Adams told The Mirror: 'No disrespect to Arsene, but George’s coaching ability, defensive structure and technical ability, for me, is far better. 'No injustice to Arsene, but it’s his strength, and that was George’s particular strength. They say coaches are the best thieves and I think he stole it off Terry Venables. 'I think Arsene Wenger is a magnificent physiologist and psychologist. Those are the areas where he excels. He’s a lovely man and he has the respect of all the players he’s ever worked with. He added: 'George was an outstanding coach – I think I won six or seven trophies under him, including the Cup Winners’ Cup against Parma with a team including Ian Selley and David Hillier in midfield and Steve Morrow at the back. 'You kind of think the guy has got something.' Arsenal slumped badly towards the end of last season, sliding from a title challenging position to end the season in fourth place. And without a trophy in six seasons, Adams is worried that even if he does taste success with FC Gabala, he might not even get to face his former club in the Champions League. He said: 'Maybe not this year, but next season, I might have a chance of winning the Azerbaijan league title with Gabala and going into the Champions League qualifying rounds. 'We could even play Arsenal, but they are struggling to get in the top five now, aren’t they? Who knows?' But whatever happens, he does have aspirations of returning to the club and his knows playing record at Highbury will always be a source of pride. 'I love Arsenal and I will always be proud to walk through the door as an Arsenal man. 'If I went back there as a disaster, I would be a disaster as a manager, not as a player, so I’ve got no fear of going back there one day and doing it my own way – good, bad or ugly.' Very hard hitting a stuff from a complete novice at football management. Wonder what your thoughts are Sagegee?
Dunno just felt like it. There's only been me and WhiteRose that's changed our user names on here, hasn't there?
I will always be Febbos if that makes you feel better OLM (Why is the smiley with the sunglasses gone?!)
Great player, and captain for the Gooner's. Failure as a manager in England, but, hopefully he is learning his trade in Azerbaijan. Agree with him that G.Graham was a class act as a manager, but, I don't think you can compare Wenger with him, they are two totally different styles of management from different era's, now. Graham's achievements with Arsenal are not the same as the achievements that Wenger has had In short you cannot compare the two's tenures as manager, because the task was/is totally different!
