Adam Szalai is another striker we should be looking at?

I think this Maynard thing has gone on long enough, if he wanted to come to us if would have put in a transfer request to show he whats to leave them and come here.
I do think that there are some other strikers worth having a look at in a similar price range.

    Adam Szalai (Hungary)
    Club: FSV Mainz 05
    Age: 22
Appearances this season: 10 matches, 3 goals
    Internationals: 5 matches, 4 goals
    Estimated market value: €2.5M-5M

Although he is young and relatively inexperienced, Adam Szalai could be a relatively cheap gamble worth taking. He moved from his native Hungary to the youth system of Bundesliga side Stuttgart at a young age. Such is his potential, that Szalai was soon picked up by Real Madrid where he became a regular goalscorer for their reserve side for three years.

With little prospect of breaking into Jose Mourinho's first team at the Bernabeu, Szalai was allowed to go to Mainz over the summer. He has responded by playing a big role in Mainz's incredible start to the season, which saw them charge to the top of the Bundesliga having only just been promoted.

He is a good supporting striker, able to provide great passes to his strike partner, drop deep or move out wide. His versatility in this sense could make him valuable to any club, where there are few attacking options. The addition of a player like Szalai who provides several possibilities is an important advantage.

Szalai is showing this season that he has the talent to be a success in one of Europe's big leagues. He has plenty of football ahead of him.

Sounds good but we have a few supporting strikers at the club, we need a goal machine that will bang 1 in every 2 over 50 games

Agree we need a goalscorer now not a supporting striker. I think at this rate we will go back in for Yak and just pay him what he wants

Dont rate Lambert. He is good in league 1 but no higher. I think he may struggle in this league as he has the movement of a 3 legged donkey

he is very good... He can head a ball well and offer a lot of the floor. Given we have the likes of Nugent to cut in, and Routledge (probably) to cross it in, he could slot in well.

Southernfox - are you Adam Szalais agent ? Wouldnt call £2.5-5m a relatively cheap gamble. I am sure that Sven is looking for a 20 goal a season striker that has pace. If he believes that is C Evans, then so be it. Am sure a few Sheff Utd fans may disagree with him, but wouldnt say so until our wallet has been firmly opened.
Interesting that Millen has said that he hopes Maynards head hasnt been turned.
Seems like a ploy by us to say that it is now down to him.

I agree, I think us declaring ourselves out is designed to encourage a transfer request from Maynard - or at least get him to put pressure on BCFC to accept the offer and state that he will not sign a new contract. Guess we have to sit and wait for how this unfolds...

if we sign ched evans i would be utterly gobsmacked, he is shocking. with our money there are plenty of options.we can enquire about top top players on the off chance like robbie keane, niklas bentdner or john carew or go for players who are out of favour in prem like simon cox, ricardo fuller, or go for the very best alternatives in the champo- billy sharp, jay rodriguez, shane long. or of course make the yak a target again. Basically sven will sort it ive no doubt.

to be our main striker, a guy who will almost certainly be able to get goals, we cannot make that player a young untried guy from a big prem club. Sure you might find a waghorn who gets 15 goals but its a big risk. With our money and the signings hes made so far (players in mid-20s proven in champo) i would think hes looking at the likes of who i mentioned above. cox, fuller, sharp have all scored in this league and can change games. I wouldnt mind a delfeounso or di santo to have in the squad though but not as main striker its too risky.

macheda- just scored 1 fluke and done nowt since
benjani- wages too high, probably like yak wont be bothered and has lees talent than yak
jason roberts- 33 now would still be decent i would have him for 1-2 years
anichebe- unless everton sign about 3 strikers he wont be leaving them, hes not a goalscorer anyway
    borini- gone to parma
pacheco- liitlre playmaker, not a striker, would like him though looked good at norwich
jo- are you having a giraffe? worst player ive seen in years for man city in the fa cup game, mark de vries would be better
fuller- mentioned him already- immense in this league with preston and stoke firing both to top 6- would have him for definite, about 15 goals and tons of skill and ability with them signing cole he may wnat to leave as well
sidibe- like heskey but not as good- injury prone, never scores, no please
di santo- very ordinary with blackburn and wigan, not a goalscorer, so no.

none of them fill me with confidence either bar fuller, macheda (not done anything since, true, but im going on the 'sturridge' hope that he is awful because he's in a good team) and maybe roberts. For someone guaranteed to get us goals im really struggling to think who else! Beckford may drop? But did well near the end of the season. Becchio is good but as a primary striker? Bar maynard i cant even think about anyone else to take from the division!!
