Sorry i can't agree on that one.
I would rather him express himself freely without having the pressures of the captaincy. stick with Hammond til he fooks up and then maybe Fonte or Morgan.

Lallana is quality but that don't make him a Leader.

Love Lallana, but many should be in front for a few reasons.... experience, presence, pressure etc

Id stick with Hammond atm or if replaced it should be Fonte.

Wouldnt mind seeing someone like Cork or Morgan getting it in a seasons time perhaps???

I agree.... Lallana should be left to have the free role without the added pressure

No way should Lallana be captain. The captain should be a player who leads the team on the pitch; someone who can organise the team and see who on the pitch needs some moral support. Lallana is our most skillful flair player, but that does not necessarily make him a good captain.

    Hammond or Fonte.

Lallana is the most influential of the "younger generation" players and will probably take the captain's armband in about 5 years or so, maybe after Fonte retires?

To be honest it doesn't matter. All the captain really does is shake hands with the ref at the start of the game. I'd be happy with Kelvin keeping it, it's not as if Fonte, Hammond etc will just be quiet. The captain isn't really that big a deal.

Oh I think it is. When you're 2 nil down inside 10 minutes away from home in the middle of November, and it's wet, cold and miserable, it can be amazing what an inpsirational captain can do to rally the troops.

What?? The captain plays a huge role in any football team! Dean Hammond isn't quiet either, he rallies the troops and leads by example just like a captain should

Captain can at times be like 2 players!!!! Hugely important!!!!! Hammond does go missing at times, however Adkins held faith so obv more to what we see in the stands! Off the scene is also important. Dressing room, training etc etc

If you wanted a younger player to be captain, it would have to be Cork or Schneiderlin. Just because Lallana is our most creative players doesn't make him a leader...

IIRC, Cork captained us once while he was on loan?

Just leave Lallana be and let him do what he does best without the added pressure of being captain.

I would like Fonte to be captain but Deano is more than adequate if Nige doesn't want to change things.

I have to agree with some posters. A captain does have a roll to play. It has to be someone who shows passion. Have never liked goalkeeping skippers. Hammond in my view is not strong enough in character. I would choose any one of three.........
Ricky Lambert........... Corky............or Fonte. Obviously my preference would go to Lambert or Fonte, I have seen passion in Corky I just don't know whether the others would except him from the outset.

If it's not Hammond, it will probably be Fonte. Cork has only just started and I'd rather Lambert just concentrated on slamming them in the net. Personally, I think nA will stick with Hammond as long as he plays.

I love watching Adam and the wonderful things he does with a football, but if you have ever seen his "flapping wings" goal celebration, I just don't think he look enough like a captain.....yet.

What about Deano doesn't make him strong enough a character?

For me this season could be make or break for Deano i love his commitment which can lead to some borderline tackling but quality wise his place in the side could be under scrutiny .Technically Morgan and Cork are superior and Chaplow has played pretty much all of his career at this level he could become more of a squad player than automatic choice which would put his position as captain in jepordy. Not a critisism of him as i think he will play his part but not as skipper so for me its Jose.
