He is not very good really, is he? I have been trying to cast my mind back to him having a good game for City. Doea anyone else think we have been shafted? Today was really just an embarrassment, dreading the derby now as the mags have a few players who on their day could really have a field day. More than anything else not only are we crap we are dreadful to watch. I'm a big o'neill fan but he has to change things and quickly.
So he is either ill or injured. Why the fck is he playing then? He is not injured or ill he is just not very good.
Nmg mate...Adam is trying to be a good football player,a big ask for anyone. There's a lot of competition you know.Big money for playing a game and all that. You however, only have to be a good poster on this forum. Not a big ask ! Just saying...
Some how i get the feeling that there may be a bit of resentment towards this poster, if so dont hold back and let us know how you feel
Speaking as a City fan, although I rate Johnson highly, and him putting in some very good performances for us during his time at City, he is hit and miss. A lot of his better performances came either early on in his City career (eager to impress), or when he was coming off the bench (in games that were already won). This suggests that he is very much a confidence player. Far too many times when starting a game, if things weren't going well his head would quickly drop and as the game progressed he became ineffective (and thus was ultimately substituted). This clearly frustrated Mancini, as he does rate Johnson highly, but it also clearly frustrated Johnson himself. Mancini took a "tough-love" approach with Johnson, in order to push him harder and for him to realise his undoubted potential - an approach which I don't believe Johnson took too kindly to. He was given ample opportunites at City (a lot more than people seem to realise, and more than Johnson himself makes out (his comment about young players not going to City is unfair, and one that I believe was made in order to push the blame for his failings at City onto someone other than himself). In essence, Johnson's problem resides in his head, not in his feet. All too often we see incredibly talented players fall by the wayside because the lack the mental aptitude that is needed in order to succeed at the highest level. In Johnson's case, I believe he couldn't cope with the pressure of knowing that no matter how well or poorly he played, it wouldn't guarantee a start in the next game, and that pressure probably affected his confidence. At Sunderland he knows he is much more likely to feature on a consistent basis, and this will only be good for him and good for Sunderland. You will no doubt still see games when he puts in a poor performance (same as any player all said and done), but as long as he plays as often as he feels he deserves to, I believe there will be many more times when Johnson plays well as opposed to when he doesn't. Just give the lad time. He's not been with you long, and his start at Sunderland was hampered by injury (and yesterday he was apparently ill). It is simply too early to come to any kind of conclusion. Contrary to what the OP has written, Johnson is a very very good player. In all honesty, I would have preferred him to have stayed with us (at City), but in fairness to the lad himself, I fully understand why he believed it necessary for him to move on.
So you are a substitute for Sunderland and the manager picks someone who is unwell before you. Martin O'neill must think all the subs are rubbish (tbf most of them are) but to deliberately select an unwell player. So now AJ excuses for being totally crap are being unfit and unwell.
