So Accrington's home record is W 0 D 2 L 4 which is the same as our away form so for me this going to be a draw. Stanley managed to draw with high flying Oxford on Saturday and a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon the week before that so there not going to fear us my any means.

    Accrington's league form (last 5 games): L D L D D - 3 Points - Goals Scored 3 - Goals Against 5

    Gas league form (last 5 games): D D L D L - 3 Points - Goals Scored 5 - Goals Against 8

    My Prediction

    Accrington 1 - 1 The Gas (Brunt)

They've picked up recently and we're diabolical, so I'm afraid that I'm going for a home win.

Another place where we have a sensational record. <doh>

March 2007 - Accrington 1-1 Rovers - Richard Walker looked to have won it for us with his first half goal, only for Stuart Campbell to be sent off and Accrington to equalise in added time at the end of the game.

November 2011 - Accrington 2-1 Rovers - A game of two halves as Accrington were more clinical. Micah Evans and Kevin Long capitalised on poor defending to give Stanley a 2-0 lead, and despite a dominant performance in the second half and Joe Anyinsah pulling a goal back from close range, Accrington , who had Peter Murphy sent off in the dying seconds, held on.

October 2012 - Accrington 1-0 Rovers - Accrington were one of only two teams to do the double over Rovers last season, and Padraig Amond's second half header gave them the first of those two wins. A dismal Rovers performance under Mark McGhee.

Accrington not won all season in the league.
Rovers not won away all season in the league.

Massive game this. A win for Accrington could kick start their season and cause a lot of worry for our season. A win for us could kick start our season and push us away the likes of Accrington.

Accrington defender Rob Atkinson (hamstring) is set to miss out, while Luke Clark and James Caton are injured.

Striker George Bowerman could make his debut after signing on Monday.

Bristol Rovers will be without forward David Clarkson, who serves the first game of a three-match ban for his red card against Wycombe on Saturday.

The game will come too soon for defender Lee Brown (hamstring) and striker Matt Harrold (groin), but both are expected to return at the weekend.

    VIEW FROM THE TRAINING GROUND

Bristol Rovers manager John Ward told BBC Radio Bristol:

"Accrington will be saying the same as us. They're going through a tough time and this is a team we can beat.

"I know from my experience in Lancashire that a Tuesday night, under floodlights, when it's wet and windy, is a test of character as much as anything else.

"Their guys are going to be used to that so we are going to have to be strong in order to compete."

Everything you need to know for tonight's game.

The Opposition: Accrington currently sit bottom of the league on four points, five points adrift of Northampton and Bury. However, the Reds are unbeaten in two matches after picking up draws at AFC Wimbledon and Oxford United. They have drawn three of their last four games and kept clean sheets in two of those matches.

In team news for them; Rob Atkinson’s hamstring problem is not as bad as first feared but he is unlikely to be available in the immediate future. Laurence Wilson and Michael Liddle are both eyeing returns but have only resumed light training. Luke Clark and James Caton remain sidelined and Kayode Odejayi serves the second match of his three match ban.

John Ward’s Comments: "I know from my experience of working in Lancashire, that a Tuesday night under floodlights, when it might be wet and windy, is a test of character, and their guys are used to that, so we are going to have to be very strong in that department to compete.

"They will look at us and say ‘this is a team going through a difficult time, who we can beat.’ We have got to make sure the attitude and approach we showed on Saturday, comes with us to Accrington.

"Any ability that we have got won’t show through unless we have a good attitude to start with. We have been saying that there is a win coming, and it might come when you don’t expect it.

"They are not winning and we have not won for a bit, so it will be the team that has the confidence and strength to have a go at the opposition."

"I am disappointed that we didn’t get the point on Saturday, as a point would have given everyone a big lift.

"The supporters were great, they backed the team to the hilt, and I think the team backed the supporters to the hilt, but we all went home with nothing. Even a point at home in those circumstances would have been a big lift."

Neither team has been in a great run of form, and the manager knows that his side are going to have to be strong to give themselves a chance of winning.

He said: "They will look at us and say ‘this is a team going through a difficult time, who we can beat.’ We have got to make sure the attitude and approach we showed on Saturday, comes with us to Accrington.

"Any ability that we have got won’t show through unless we have a good attitude to start with. We have been saying that there is a win coming, and it might come when you don’t expect it.

"They are not winning and we have not won for a bit, so it will be the team that has the confidence and strength to have a go at the opposition.

"If we can defend as well and be as strong as we have been in recent games away from home, perhaps we can spring ourselves on them a little bit. I don’t know how the game is going to pan out, but I do know I have a team with a really strong attitude to give us the chance of winning."

Opposition View: Manager James Beattie said: "“We have drawn three out of the last four and, if we keep turning in performances like that, we will get our first win and more will follow. I've seen teams that have been bottom of the league before and they don't carry themselves like that.

Last Meeting: Bristol Rovers 0-1 Accrington Stanley. The last meeting between the two teams was in April here at the Memorial Stadium, the visitors took all three points thanks to a single goal from Lee Molyneaux.

Team News: The manager will be without David Clarkson who serves the first of his three match ban after picking up a red card against Wycombe on Saturday. The game will probably also come too soon for Matt Harrold and Lee Brown as they aim to return from injury.

Tickets: Tickets for Bristol Rovers' trip to Accrington Stanley will be available to buy on the night. Tickets in both terrace and seated areas of the ground are priced at £13 for adults, £8 for over 65s, £5 for U17s and students with a valid photo ID and £1 for accompanied U12s. The turnstiles on the night are cash only.

Live Commentary: Unable to make the trip to the Crown Ground tonight? Then you can follow all the action from 7.45pm as Bristol Rovers take on Accrington LIVE on Gas Player.

Betting: Rovers are 6/4 to take all three points against Accrington Stanley tonight. You can get 6/1 on Ryan Brunt to score the first goal. Bristol Rovers will benefit as you bet throughout the season, so make sure you open your Sky Bet account via www.skybet.com/bristolrovers

MANAGER John Ward will send his Bristol Rovers players into battle at League Two basement club Accrington Stanley tonight with the message: "Don't be southern softies."

Ward expects a physical approach from opponents who did the double over Rovers last season, and is leaving his team in no doubt about what lies in store against a club still seeking their first league win of the season.

"I've worked in Lancashire for a fair bit of my career and it is normally wet and windy on a night in late October," said Ward. "That makes Accrington a tough place to visit on a Tuesday evening. It's a tight ground and they tend to attract crowds of not much over a thousand.

"As the home side, they are used to those conditions and we have to be prepared for them. We had someone at their game against Oxford United on Saturday and they really dug in to earn a battling point.

"On a Tuesday night they will tell themselves the southern softy boys won't fancy it and set out to get after us. We will need to stand up to them physically, which we are capable of doing, but only with that approach will we give them a game."

Rovers are in danger of joining Accrington in the League Two drop zone and Ward is short of strikers, with the suspended David Clarkson joining injured duo Matt Harrold and Eliot Richards on the sidelines.

Both Harrold (groin) and Richards (hamstring) could be fit in time for Saturday's home game with Chesterfield, but Ryan Brunt looks set to lead the attack this evening, supported by Ellis Harrison or new loan recruit Alex Henshall.

Ward admits Rovers owe Accrington a beating for being party-poopers at the Memorial Stadium last April.

More than 7.500 Pirates fans turned up looking to celebrate a strong end to the campaign at the end of the final home game, but had those plans muted when the visitors won 1-0.

"The result spoiled the day for everyone, including me, because I couldn't enjoy the aftermath of it as I had hoped," said Ward. "We owe Accrington one in that respect, but we also owe ourselves a win because I have been okay with the majority of team performances without us clinching the points we sometimes deserved.

"This time I'll take a win whatever the performance is like. The fans who travel to Accrington will deserve a happy trip back home. The ones who went to Mansfield for our last away match were lifted by Alfie Santos' late goal and acknowledged a good display. We had 400-odd supporters there and the same at Dagenham, where we didn't do them justice, so I am looking to rewarding them again this time."

Alex Henshall comes in for his first start in place of the suspended David Clarkson. Thats the only change to the starting line up. Replacing Henshall on the bench is Richards who returns from injury but not quite fit enough to start.
