"John Tweedy and Paul Midgley have left the Academy of Light, with the Black Cats hoping to announce new appointments imminently. Head of academy recruitment Tweedy has joined Premier League outfit Wolves, having worked for Sunderland since 2011. Midgley, meanwhile, has joined Leeds United after a two-year spell as recruitment lead at Sunderland." Onwards and upwards for them I guess although I'm not sure they've earned it given the performance of our under 23s in recent years. "The Black Cats are now looking to restructure their academy recruitment team after believing it has grown stale in recent times. A number of highly-regarded people have been approached, with the club looking to make the most of the FPP investment brought into the club which will allow them to put more focus on the youth set-up. It is understood Sunderland has recently advertised for a number of new posts including lead phase recruitment, talent ID co-ordination and national scout." Sounds like a more professional setup is being implemented as expected and hoped for.
Did a good job with the youngsters before. Could be just what we need at a time when money is supposedly going to be invested in the Academy.
I think it's the Americans influence on the club, before they got on board I expected them to focus on the academy because it's what they did with their Miami team. Two (pretty crap imo) scouts gone who will be replaced and three new fancy roles related to it doesn't sound so bad.
They have already spoken about setting up new scouting networks and making it a priority in the future which happened to coincide with the Yanks 'investment'. Plenty not to like to do with the club but this isn't part of it.
I hope that whoever makes the recruitment decisions does a better job than whoever recruited the manager.
Be interesting if PP gets sacked at the weekend considering SG got sacked after PP's Bolton beat us at the SOL.
It's a start mate. There's no point in having a Class 1 academy and filling it with ****. Reid has so far shown me nothing that would suggest he has what it takes to create a thriving academy. If the Yanks DO put faith in bringing youngsters through, he's got to be under their scrutiny.
So crap one went to Leeds while the other went to Wolves Let's hope Stew gets this right because his days are numbered as it is
I can't wait for SD to employ his mates from Eastleigh to work in the academy like he has done in the past
