Conor Chaplin hit a hat-trick as Pompey Academy returned to winning ways with a 4-1 triumph at Torquay. The striker opened the scoring when he created space inside the area and fired a shot across the Gulls keeper. Adam May then fed left wing-back Brandon Haunstrup who found the bottom corner to double the Bluesâ advantage. Chaplin made it 3-0 when he was first to react following a scramble in the Torquay box. And he then collected Haunstrupâs cut-back to complete his treble with a cool finish before the hosts grabbed a consolation. Academy coach Mikey Harris said: âIt was a good all-round performance, although we have played better this season and not won. âIt was great for Conor to get his hat-trick and the first in particular was an excellent individual effort. âThe only disappointing thing was that we conceded a poor goal on the counter-attack to deny us a clean sheet. âItâs not all about results at this level â itâs important that I donât just say that following a defeat. âBut we were much better in both boxes and impressed during the key moments of the game.â Pompey: George (Bass 75); Nilsen, Field, May; Davis, Granger (Sayers 64), Rwakarambwe, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Haunstrup; Chaplin, Woodward (Gill 46)
