Great news for us because it means clubs cant cherry pick our academy players and pay us peanuts in compensation @OfficialFOXES: #LCFC is delighted to announce that its Academy has been awarded âCategory Oneâ status as part of the EPPP. More on http://t.co/bGvI1ZbpKx Like this for example http://m.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story.html?aid=19474965&category=sport
BBC have even picked up this story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23187531 Something we can all use as ammo in any "who's club is best/biggest" pissing contest
We've just lost a promising prospect. I think our academy status is 3. We really need to invest some of those premier league pennies this time in our infrastructure rather Bullard's party funds.....
Have you got any more decent players coming through. We will take them and send you 75K in return Oh and just to let you know. Clubs can spend as much as they like on academy's. The money spent doesnt count towards FFP
They only cost £75k if they don't actually go on to achieve anything. If they end up playing football at a decent level, there can still be a seven figure fee to follow. Our academy and training facilities are ****, they always have been, something that will be adressed now we've got a few bob.
Team like us with Category 1 can still cherry pick them. If they turn out to be good you still get peanuts and we either get a decent player to use or sell him on and make a profit I dont agree with it but thats what the Premier League have done
As our academy has not yet produced a player worth more than £75k, it's somewhat academic. In fact, Reading have just set a transfer record for one of our academy players, as far as i'm aware, he's the first one ever to leave with a fee.
But you will never bring another decent player through unless you can sort out your academy. Anyone who looks half decent the big boys will come in and take them Whats 75K for Man U, Man City, Chelsea etc. If they turn out to be **** oh well, it didnt cost them alot. If they turn out to be decent they can sell them on and make their money back and a tidy profit, but if they turn into a quality player they have had him for next to nothing.
My thoughts exactly Favours the big clubs too much. Were lucky that were protected by being a category 1 club and we can cherry pick from other clubs
Its more were protected then anything else. No one can cherry pick our players As we both know Steve Walsh has a knack of getting young players.
Not saying that this would happen, but we are now quite an attractive proposition because if there is a young player, he could feel he has a better chance of making it with us than competing with lots more at one of the bigger clubs etc
I think it is great news for the club in terms of recognition that we are getting the infrastructure right and building impressively for the future - I'd place less emphasis on the poaching aspect to be fair - if the big boys come knocking we could still lose out -OK we'd get more than £75k but how do you set a fee on potential anyway? ... and it can go wrong - John Bostock cost a fortune and where is he now? Joe Mattock has shown that £75k is sometimes close to real value
A lot of excellent work going on behind the scenes. When the time comes, it will make us a much more sellable commodity. Well done King Power!
Its not surprise to see the academy rated so highly. Since the owners came in they really do look after the facilities alot more. Ed Mowe won championship groundsman of the year last season. Its no surprise just look at the pitch, this was taken this morning please log in to view this image
